Mini Cribs

I fell in love with and picked out a mini crib for our LO.  It's a beautiful crib with storage/changing table attached and (my favorite part) is a beds for life that changes into a twin instead of a huge full size.  However, my mother and others have commented that they think the child will grow out of the mini far too fast and we'll have the problem of them not being ready for the converted bed.

Who has used one?  Did it work for you or did your child quickly get too big for it?

 Here's the one I love:

Re: Mini Cribs

  • We have and used a mini crib with our DS. We absolutely LOVED IT! He was 18 months when he finally grew out of it, and then we bought a toddler bed, transitioned with no issue. After this LO grows out of the mini we will do the twin bed, since we will be living in a larger place then.

I would caution you against the attached changing table though. My kid would have grown out of that frame at about 4 months. They are VERY small. A waist-high dresser with a changing pad is really all you need.

One more caution, you will need to buy a 5-6" mini crib mattress to go along with it, they come with a mattress pad and that pad sucks (and is about 1").

This is pretty similar to what we got except ours has a quilt bar on the front/back.

Yeah, from looking at it, I think we'll end up using the "changing table" just as a nightstand.  That's what it turns into when you convert the bed anyway.  We already had a full size changing table given to us.

We noticed that issue while we were registering.  The girl at BRU was pretty useless.  When we were looking at mattresses, we couldn't find any minicrib size and asked for help.  She walked up through the section, couldn't find any they carried in store and declared that they didn't make them and we should just be happy with a changing table pad or two doubled.  It took me five minutes online to find plenty of sites that sold regular mattresses in the right size.
