This fawn is sleeping under a pine tree next to our driveway. We think it is less than 24 hours old--it's very wobbly and you can see the fur is still a bit gunky from amniotic fluid. It's all I can do to keep myself from going outside to check on it every hour but we know if we're out there, the mom won't come back.
Between watching some snakes hatching out of their eggs last week in our woods and this, my kids are getting very up close and personal with nature.

I can't wait for our local deer to have their babies! That is so cute.
We are currently the proud 'parents' of 6 fox kits, plus mama and daddy. I am having more fun watching them than the kids are.
