Baby Showers

when do you usually buy bs gift?

Ok I know I am a procrastinator and usually wait until a few days before the shower to get a gift..just wondering when you guys get gifts....cause not many things are off my registry.

I hope everyone else I know is just a procrastinator too lol

The same thing happened with my shower. Lots of people bought gifts within a week of the shower and lots of gifts were not on the registry. We still made out really well, only needing to buy a few things ourselves.

  • I usually buy gifts the week before the shower. To be honest, there have been a few times that I've bought gifts the day of or day prior to the shower. I think this is pretty common.

  • If it is a good friend, I start the month before so that I can budget enough money each week for the complete gift-this is more for a $50 gift that I am putting together a couple of items together.  I am going to my friend's baby shower today.  And my gift was complete two weeks ago, and I had spent the previous weeks just buying a couple of baby items for the complete gift.  But I talked to my other friends, and it seems like they were waiting to buy their gift right before the baby shower.

Recently, however, we went to a baby shower for the daughter of a friend of my husband's, and he bought the gift the week before-he spent $20 which worked out well--because we got her the Elmo bathrobe off her registry and then I added Sesame Street body wash.

  • I wouldnt worry about it, a lot of ppl dont get the gift untill a few days before. And if you dont get a lot of things off your registry you can either return a few things to get what you want, or you might be ok with the gifts you do get. Either way I hope you have a great shower!!

  • I usually buy a gift shortly after receiving the invitation, but I never use registries.  Registries are not a good indicator of attendance - I'm sure you'll have lots of people there!
  • I buy the gift as soon as I say I am going to the shower so i have plenty to pick from off registries.

  • I always buy as soon as I can get to the store.  I like to be able to pick out something nice in my price range.  I prefer to buy one big gift as opposed to several smaller gifts.  If you wait too close to the shower, sometimes the only things left are the smaller things.
  • I like to shop early to get the best selection off the registry, even if (or especially if) I don't plan to spend a lot.  I hate throwing random things together in a basket without a theme or concept because nothing else was left, or worse yet, veering from the registry so as to have SOMETHING to give.  It's just easier to plan ahead for me.

I give myself at least 3 weeks. I am an overplanner and I like to pick a few things within my budget and I like to give myself time because I like to order things that can only be gotten offline because I know many people don't buy those things and sometimes those are teh tings I personally have wanted the most so I like to make sure they get a few of those things.

  • Unfortunately I wait until just a few days before.  Not that I am a procrastinator - ya right - but I do wait and wait.  Never would I go the day of though...I'm not that much of a procrastinator!  lol
  • I like to purchase early, because I usually order online and then I get to choose the item I want.  I try to go with a large item in a middle price range or choose something like a diaper bag or bath tub and put a few extra items in (usually eliminates the need for a gift bag).

However, I think a lot of people wait until the last minute.  There is 2 weeks until my shower and only a few registry items are taken.  I?ve heard this is pretty common, so I?m trying to not registry-stalk and have some patience.

This... especially based on if the item is something I can pick up in store or something that needs to be shipped to my house first!
