Two Under 2

#3? How are you handling it?

Right now I have a 25 month old (ds) and an 8 month old (dd).  It's pretty crazy, but quite manageable now that we found responsible babysitters (THANK GOD) for the evenings/weekends when we need them :) but when dd turns one (or that month) we're considering TTC again - at least through the fall...we're hoping for spring/summer baby since I'm a teacher :) so I can maximize my time home.  If I get preg within those first 4 cycles, we'll have a 3 yo, almost 2 yo and an infant...is that crazy?

Please tell me honestly what it's like.  We want them close and realize that the first year will be hard - as this one was...but worth it to us in the end.

DS and DD will both be in daycare 1/2 time on different days so it should only be one toddler and the baby home at one time for my mom who is my home daycare.  Which I hope will be OK.

  • i hope its not crazy b/c mine will be closer than yours ;) My #3 was not planned...a BIG shock!

  • It was not as bad for me to go from 2-3. 1-2 was WAY worse, and DD was in the NICU for a few weeks.

It is a frame of mind thing for me.

  • We are considering this same scenario. I'm still on the fence about it.

  • Great question :) We (had) 2u2: our kids are now 3 and 4 and we just found out we are expecting #3. Everyone I have talked to says that going from 1 to 2 is harder than 2 to 3. You make it though.  I keep thinking about our friends who had triplets (no fertility meds) and think "if they can do it, we can too!" :)

  • My girls are just over 2 years apart.  Personally I think that going from 2-3 was cake compared to going from 1-2.  If you can handle 2, you can handle 3.  It all depends on the personality of your kids though.  Some say that #2 is tough, so adding #3 is impossible.  My first child is my hard one and #2 and #3 are easy compared to her.  Now that my #1 is in school, life is easier.

Oh my gosh I was just coming here to look for this kind of info. Our kids are almost the exact same ages. DS 1 turned 2 on April 19 and DS 2 will be 8 mos in 7 days. I am starting to get the baby itch pretty hard core. 3 is pretty impractical for us. We don't have a vehicle with a third row and we only have 2 BR in our house (with room to expand, just no time or $$$ to do it) I just feel like I want to have at least one more, hopefully a girl but I don't want to be in baby and baby making mode in my 40's. Oh man this is an interesting, exciting and terrifying process.

  • We have a 25month old, an 8mo old and I am 4 1/2 months pregnant! Yes its crazy but I am looking forward to the madness for a few years :)! I don't think there is any real right time to get pg!
  • It's pretty chaotic!  But I think having 2U2 prepared me pretty well for it.  I've learned to relax my standards, go with the flow, and survive on very little sleep and/or me time.  We're still in early days, but getting along pretty well.  So far, I think the hardest part is logistics - for me to take them all out on my own is pretty ridiculous.  It takes forever to get ready to go and actually go anywhere.

Also, I found having a newborn with an 18 mo old is much tougher than with a 24 mo old - that little bit made a big difference.  With #2, DD1 was able to walk, get in and out of the car on her own, picked up appropriate 'gentle' touching much faster than DD2 did this time around with #3.  HTH and GL with your decision!
