I don't know why my family was so lucky. My nephew was thrown from not one, but TWO houses...only to be found by neighbors in the highway. He has a skull fracture and a broken leg, but is expected to be physically okay. Mentally and emotionally? I don't know how one recovers from something like that.
My step-mother's neice, had just arrived at her grandmother's house with her 3 young sons. She put grandma and the boys in the storm cellar, and went to her truck to get something for one of the boys. The tornado hit her grandmother's house while she was in the truck. She watched her grandmother's house be destroyed, and all their possessions sucked out and vanish into the wind. She, grandma and her boy, miraculously, are okay.
There was another story, about a 4 year old boy and his slightly older sister who were sucked from the home and injured. Both their parents are dead, the little girl's bio father is with her in the hospital, but the little boy has no one. He is in Children's Hospital, alone. He has no family left.
My cousin raises show horses on their farm. So far, they have euthanized 14 horses who were injured in the storm. She is just thankful that they aren't burying family members. These horses were not only beloved pets, but the family's livelyhood.
Please, please, please pray for these families. If you can, find a way to send donations to these families in need. They have lost everything. Their homes are gone.
I am so sad today.
Re: They just published an incomplete victim list in our paper.
The devastation is just so overwhelming and heartbreaking. I am so sad for all of the victims and their families and for all of you that had to live through such a scary time and now pick up the pieces of your city.
Hugs.
