New Here

Hey, I am 21 and my husband and I have been on again and off again trying to get pregnant for about 9 months. I have been off the pill for about a year. I have irregular periods. I'm on about a 34-40 day cycle most months. Two months ago I went to a new OB and she took some blood test and I had a 2 for my progesterone levels on day 21. Then she precribed me clomid and I took that and on day 21 my progesterone level was 30. But...on day 32 I started my period. I did not start up clomid again though. I am now on day 35, but I haven't started my period. I took a test this morning, but it was negative...Is there anyway I could be pregnant still?? Or would it have already shown up???...I'm so worried that I won't ever be able to get pregnant :( ...Also, I wonder if I have PCOS?? What are the typical symtoms? (I'm going to talk to my OB next time I go in) I read the symtoms online, and I fit most of them but I am not overweight, and I don't have any of the symtoms to the extreme. Please help! I'm tired of being worried about this. Does anyone have success stories or advice?  Thanks!

A couple things I would say from reading your post would be first off to make sure that you are being monitored mid-cycle through ultrasound if you decide to take Clomid again.  I would say that if you are on CD35 and have gotten negative HPT you probably arn't pregnant or you just ovulated late.  Are you charting you'r bbt or taking OPK's?  If your not I recommend checking out fertilityfriend.com and to start charting to find out if and when you are ovulating.  Also please, please don't give yourself a infertility problem if you don't have it.  If you want to ask your doctor about PCOS then by all means do but if I were you I would move over to the Trying to Get Pregnant board and start charting your temps to make sure you are or arn't ovulating.  Remember it can take a normal couple up to a year to get pregnant and you have only been trying off an on for 9 months..  This board is more for those women who have been actually trying for a year and have not gotten pregnant or who have been diagnosed with a infertility problem.  I hope this gives you some help.  Good luck!

P.S.  I would also go out and get the book Taking Control of Your Fertility it will give you alot of answers.

    Hi jh and welcome,

I'm sorry you are having troubles.  It sounds like you have not really educated yourself about fertility, and also your OB has prescribed clomid without even a proper diagnosis.  I think you are on the wrong path here.  This is what I recommend.  First, get a better doctor. Second, read Taking Charge of Your Fertility.  Using that book and fertilityfriend.com, chart your cycles to see if you are ovulating.  If you find that you are ovulating, you can time your sex correctly.  If you find out that you are not ovulating, you can go to a specialist called a reproductive endocrinologist for help.  OBs don't know as much about getting pregnant (they focus on already pregnant women), and yours apparently gives out clomid like candy.

Regarding your specific questions. If you were pregnant, it would show up on a test.  Your period is late because you ovulated late, or haven't ovulated yet.

Finally, you should probably visit the Trying to Get Pregnant board, instead of this board. they know all about charting, etc.  This board is for the trouble TTC board, for ladies who have been trying for a year or have a diagnosed medical problem.

Here is a standard warning for those on clomid:

If you are taking clomid, you need to be monitored with bloodwork and vaginal ultrasounds at the beginning and middle of the cycle.  The cycle-day 3 monitoring is to make sure you have no cysts on your ovaries before beginning clomid.  If you do have a cyst, taking clomid could create a dangerous situation where the cyst enlarges and/or bursts.  The mid-cycle monitoring is to make sure you have not under responded or over responded. If you have not responded, you need to know to change your protocol.  If you over-respond (have too many big follicles) and you are at risk for multiples.  I wouldn?t want to have to go through a reduction.  There is a low probability of these risks, but they are bad risks and detecting them with ultrasounds is easy and absolutely necessary.

Also, you should not take clomid for more than 6 cycles in your life ? that is because of the risk of ovarian cancer.  Therefore, you should get your husband a semen analysis and you should get an HSG to make sure your tubes are clear.  You do not want to waste cycles of clomid if you have no chance of getting pregnant anyways.

I have so many things to say here, but I think that the 3T info blog in my siggy says it all. Please read!!

A few things: 9 months trying is not long enough to determine that there is a problem yet. If you had BW on CD21 but didn't ovulate on CD14 that cycle, of course it will be off. You should have the bloodwork at 7dpo.

I sincerely hope that you are monitored properly on clomid. It is a very serious drug.

The PPs have great advice too. GL!
