NBR: Ever take Augmentin?

You - not your little one.

How long did it take to kick in? I am on day two of taking it for this stupid sinus infection. I am ready to be well - I have stuff to do! Ha!

Re: NBR: Ever take Augmentin?

  • I took it in college, and I remember it working pretty quickly.  Possibly in several days.  Hope it works fast for you too!

  • Thanks! I have high hopes for tomorrow. :) haha
  • Yeah- I just took it last month. I wanna say 3-4 days?

  • I just took it a couple of weeks ago for a sinus infection...it was at least 5 or 6 days before I felt a real difference.

FYI...it also can make BC ineffective (in case your doc didn't mention it.) Use a backup for a month.

  • Is it an antibiotic? I've never heard of it, sorry. I just recently had an EI and took an antibiotic that didn't knock it out, so I had to get a stronger one that worked. If you aren't feeling good soon and possibly worse, you might want to consider that the same is happening with you. I hope you feel better soon, I hate sinus infections!

3ish days, if I remember correctly.  Mucinex seemed to help the most with breaking up the congestion and the pressure.  Hope you feel better soon.
  • Thanks guys! Yeah the doc yesterday said that we caught it early - so I am hoping that I'm on the shorter side of this antibiotic working.
  • I always tell people to allow at least 4 pills/doses for an antibiotic to really kick in. Sometimes 6. Generally 2-4 days.If you have absolutely no relief after 5-6 days, then you can consult with your doctor to possibly switch to something else or add in something to help. Mucinex or something else like it may help to thin secretions and get the ick out better too. Drink lots of water and load up on your yogurt. The nasty side effect of almost every antibiotic in women "our age" ;) is yeast infection.

Probiotics will help with that too! Just like with the kiddos. Sometimes it's easier to just get the pills or powder than try to down yogurt every five seconds.
