Bedrest After Transfer Questions

How much bedrest did your RE tell you to do?

How much bedrest did you actually do?

Do you think it makes a real difference?

Re: Bedrest After Transfer Questions

  • My RE recommends couchrest the day of the ET.  Last time I did IVF was January 2009 and I did the transfer on Saturday.  I cannot remember if I continued couchrest on Sunday or not.

I really don't think bedrest makes a difference.  I think one's body is going to do what it is going to do.

  • I never was told any bed rest by my RE.  I did lay down all day the first day and took it real easy the next day and the just sat a lot for the next few days.  I don't think it mattered honestly...I didn't do enough "bed rest" for it to have made the major difference!

"All for Love,' a Saviour prayed 'Abba Father have Your way. Though they know not what they do...Let the Cross draw men to You...."

  • How much bedrest did your RE tell you to do? - Zero, just "take it easy" for the rest of the day

How much bedrest did you actually do? - I took it easy for almost a week.  Embarrassed

Do you think it makes a real difference? - Yes and no.  I think not going to work and be stressed out helped.  But I'm a believer that an embryo will implant or will not implant, it's out of our hands at that point.

(On my successful cycle... I've done more strict BR with BFNs).

  • My RE doesn't think bedrest makes a difference. I did "take it easy" for 2 days following IVF #2 (successful cycle), no walking the dog, lifting things, etc. With FET #2 (successful) it was harder to take it easy, but I still tried.

  • My RE requires 24 hours of strict bedrest (only bathroom privileges). I did it my first IVF, but was a bridesmaid the next day so on my feet all day. My second cycle, I did as much as I could, but had a 10 month old, so it didn't really work. Both cycles were successful.

Nope, RE didn't recommend bedrest.  For my first IVF, I think I took it easy for a couple days.  For my FET, I pretty much went back into my normal routine, including lifting two toddlers, etc., right after the transfer  I don't think it made much difference.  I had a C/P, but my RE said that's usually due to chromosomal issues so bedrest wouldn't have made any difference at all.

My RE is very much up on the literature so I asked her after the FET what restrictions she recommends after ER/ET.  She said the only thing she recommends against is vigorous exercise (however, the research was on something like marathon runners later in pregnancy) and activities that would potentially injure the already fragile ovaries (like kickboxing).  In other words, I interpreted it as not  needing to do anything different than I normally do. :-)

  • I had two successes with zero bedrest!
  • I don't believe it makes any difference.

  • My RE recommended the day of the transfer but I didn't really do any.  I came home and hung out and then went out to dinner that night with friends.  I don't think it makes any difference and I believe there are numerous studies which also show no increase in pregnancies with bedrest.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • Wow... I guess my RE is strict.   She recommends 48 hours of bedrest... I did it with all of my cycles (2 successful, 2 unsuccessful.)   Best of luck!

  • My first IVF, bedrest the day of and the next day.  It was really more like couch rest, I took a shower and got up to get food etc.  Sat up most of the time.

My 2nd IVF (the one that stuck!), new RE had me do 3 days of couch / bedrest.  I stayed laying down almost the whole time, especially the day of and most of the next day.  Only got up to use the restroom.  DH and mom brought food to me in bed.  Third day, I showered and sat at the table to eat.

Not sure if it made the difference, probably not, but it made me feel like I was doing EVERYTHING I could.  Just didn't want "what-ifs" later on.

  • How much bedrest did your RE tell you to do? 2 full days

How much bedrest did you actually do? almost that, maybe a few hours short

Do you think it makes a real difference? not really - I hear about just as much success here without bedrest as with. but I'm superstitious, so I'll probably do it again! ;)

  • None, my Re actually thinks it is better not to do BR, for blood flow and stress to just go about your normal life. No heavy lifting. I followed this advice after doing bedrest following 2 BFN cycles, and this was the winner! Good luck Jackie, all my thoughts are with you this cycle!
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I was told to "take it easy" the day of ET.  For one of my ETs I had to go back to work...it wound up being a CP but that was more due to my crappy eggs than not resting.

I don't think bedrest makes any difference unless you will torture yourself with "what ifs" if you don't do it.

  • How much bedrest did your RE tell you to do? He said to take it easy the day of the trasfe.

How much bedrest did you actually do? I did a modified bed rest that day. I have a toddler that I still needed to help take care of.

Do you think it makes a real difference? I think taking it easy the day of makes sense, but anything beyond that isn't needed (IMO).

  • RE said to "take it easy".  I tried to just sit around the afternoon after and the next day (keeping in mind that I had a 2 year old and I'm a SAHM).  HOWEVER, every day after the ET, I would lay down while DS took his nap.  So for at least an hour each day, I was laying down and relaxing.  I think that this made a difference.  It made me relax.  Usually, I run around for the whole time that DS is napping doing laundry, dishes, cleaning up, etc.. but I made myself do this.

  • I was told be on bedrest for 48 hours after the ET.  My ET was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, so I had the long weekend to relax and put my feet up.

Do I think it made a difference? - I don't know, but at that point I would have laid in bed for a month if my RE told me it would increase my chances of having a baby.

TTC since 10/06 - Went to RE after 6 months of TTC due to AMA -Diagnosed with MIF 5/07, only option IVF with ICSI - IVF #1 cancelled due to cyst, never got to ER - IVF #1.5 10/07, BFP - Robert Andrew born 7/30/08 Lilypie Kids Birthday tickers
  • Just a general "take it easy"

  • How much bedrest did your RE tell you to do? None, just to take it easy and avoid vigorous activity. They OK going back to work the day of ET.

How much bedrest did you actually do? with DD, I took the rest of ET off of work and laid around. Next day I was out and about. This past cycle (successful so far), I tried to take it easy the day of ET, but with a crawling superstar 10 month old, it didn't so much happen. I just tried to take it as easy as I could,

Do you think it makes a real difference? The only difference I think bed rest makes is in your own head. I do whatever I need to do so I can sleep at night and not blame myself if it doesn't work. If my REs thought bed rest would improve my odds, theybwould have me do it (since it is in their best interest too). But they don't. So no bed rest is perfectly fine with me.

    good luck, hon!!!

  • Mine didn't do any bedrest afterwards.  In fact we went out to eat that night.  I kept patty my belly telling DH I was eating for 3 :)  Guess I was right.  We had twins from our IVF cycle.
  • My RE told me to take it easy for 2 days.  I think the first day is important, but...

Good luck!  I hope you can join us here.  You know we are cheering you on.

  • My Re says bedrest is not needed! I never did bedrest, just avoided heavy lifting the first few days. When I say heavy lifting I mean over 20lbs!

  • We went to lunch after transfer and then I just hungout at home on the couch the rest of the day.  My RE didn't force any bedrest after transfer.
