Cloth Diapering

Need some help...

ok, i am super new to this CD thing. Im just lost. I  have read through the FAQs and it helped a ton, but im still pretty overwhelmed. My new daughter will be here about mid September. I love the idea of Rumparoos. I have played around with them adn love them. But i am scared shitless of ordering a stash adn them not work for us. I think a AIO or pocket system is for us. Im not sure if i like all the work of prefolds and covers. Can i get some advice on what to start with? And if you think pfs adn covers are as easy, please let me know. Thanks!

  • Don't buy a whole stash of one diaper as it may not work for your LO.  Rumparooz run very small and DD outgrew them by 10 months, and she is on the smaller side of the growth chart.  I would do a trial to see the different types and see what works for your particular child.

  • Prefolds and covers are super easy. I suggest watching youtube video for fold options. You can try them on an older child, but they are squirmy so it's much harder then doing it on a newborn. You go through so many diapers a day with a newborn I find having mostly prefolds and maybe a few tiny fittes or AIO for daddy works great. Once they out grown the newborn covers they are ready for OS diapers. Bum Genius pockets have worked fine on all of my kids. They have all been average to a bit small as far as growth goes.

  • I agree with pp....don't buy an entire stash of one diaper until you try it.  If you can't find a trial you like...just buy 1 of several different brands.  You can always sell the ones that don't work for you.

  • I do prefolds and covers.  I love them and think they are easy.  Especially when you can just trifold and lay into the cover.  My personal preference is the Flip System.  Everyone has what they like and what works for their LO.

  • We do a mix of mostly prefolds and covers and pockets (we also have a few AIOs but I don't like them as much because they take forever to dry).  I think they're about equally work-intensive.  Prefolds are really cheap, so unless you're on a really restricted budget I'd suggest getting at least a few and trying them out.  One of the big advantages to prefolds is that you can get them to fit pretty much any body type, so you're less likely to have the leaking problems due to fit issues that you see with other types of diapers.

  • I was not comfortable with the idea of prefolds until I actually tried them.  Now I love them best and reach for them first (though DH still uses pockets and refuses to touch prefolds.)
