2nd Trimester

if you have been getting gel manicures

Have you been getting gel manicures during your pregnancy?  and how often do you have to go?
My nails are in desperate need of some TLC!

Re: if you have been getting gel manicures

  • Do you mean the gel thats like acrylic or the new shilac stuff?  I get the regular gel manicures and I go every 2-3 weeks depending on how badly I need one.

  • No not the acrylic ones, the place I go to calls it "gel polish"
  • Ahh, ok.  Personally I wouldn't do those while pregnant, beccause when they take them off each time you have to leave your hands in nail polish remover for along time.

  • i used to have them before DD and then took them off as soon as i found out i was KU.  i would have them file them down to reduce your soaking time and then take them off for the rest of your pregnancy.

besides your natural nails are usually stronger and grow faster while pregnant, why not go natural?

  • I used to get acrylics, but anytime I'm pg I stop.  No need for any uneccesary chemicals soaking into my skin or nails, babys health is more important.

  • Are you talking about the fake nails or the actual MANICURE? I got a manicure a couple weeks ago and instead of regular nail polish its gel nail polish and the polish is guaranteed to not chip, peel, etc for at least 2 weeks. Its called the gelac manicure. I dont do the fake nails anymore but I do like to get manicures so my nails looks nice but my problem is my nail polish chips SO QUICK like in 2 days so I tried the gelac an it did last the 2 wks =] the only sucky part is instead of $10 the gelac is $20 but so worth it!!

  • Oh yes and I would never get anything else!! Way better then acrylic if you ask me.  Much stronger and I like that it's still my natural nail. I get them filled every two weeks. In fact, I'm going tomorrow for a fill.  They don't chip or break!  I'll never go back to acrylic or just my natural nail again!

I get the polish stuff. My nails were weak before I was pregnant and even more during pregnancies.  THere's nothing wrong with using gel nails or acrylic during your pregnancy.  Some peoples nails, like mine, don't get strong like others do.  So, any little bit helps. : )

And, actually, they don't soak them off each time you go in.  They file them down, remove the top coat, and if you want the same color, they will just fill in the part that has grown out.  It doesn't hurt your natural nails at all.  That is why they are better then acrylic.

  • I get gel polish manicures every 3 weeks.  They buff the polish a little and I soak in the polish remover for about 5 minutes.
  • I have the shellac nail polish on ever 2-3 weeks. They don't soak your hands in remover, they just soak a cotton ball and use a small square of tin foil to wrap it around the end of your nail to remove the shellac. It doesn't have a strong odor and is perfectly safe. Plus its still your natural nail.
