Hi ladies! I posted on BF board too, but I figured someone here might have an answer. I really don't wanna mess up my supply with the pill (mini-pill) because my supply seems to react to everything now. All other BC is not an option, except condoms & diaphragms.... which I'm kinda over using. DH & I are not trying to have another one now, but we could definitely handle it if it happened. It would just be slightly sooner than planned lol. It was super easy to conceive LO, but my cycle still hasn't regulated since his birth. Anyway, how easy or difficult was it to get pregnant while BF?
Re: XP: Anyone get preg while breastfeeding?
It totally depends on the person. BF'ing is not a reliable for of BC, because so any people do get pregnant while still nursing. I did, but only once I stopped nursing through the night and started taking B6 to lengthen out my luteal phase. A lot of people (like me) find that their luteal phase (from ovulation to menstruation) is too short to sustain a pregnancy, even if you're cycling regularly. I got my period 9 days after ovulating every cycle until the one I gave up and then got pregnant on. DS was 11 months old by that time.
Hope this helps!
And by this I mean, a lot of people who are breastfeeding. Luteal phase defects are really common while nursing, but still, I wouldn't count on having one.
Thanks thats extremely helpful. I probably have one, but it would be too early to try to record it & see if theres a pattern. I've gotten 2 periods since LO was born & one was just light spotting for a couple of days.
I have known two people IRL get pregnant while BFing. Both got pregnant shortly after they introduced solids and their baby's demand for BFing went down. Everything I read really didn't support BFing as a form of BC unless you are charting to avoid at the same time.
After having DS I used an IUD, and I was really pleased. No hormones to interfere with BFing, no condoms, no diaphragms, no charting, etc. I know it wasn't what you were asking about, but perhaps that is something else you could consider.
Go Phils!!
Yep. I'm really allergic to silver & have a couple other metal sensitivities, so the chances are pretty high that I'd react badly. I wish I could though, that IUD would be freaking perfect.
Haha thats crazy! That sounds like something I'd do.....
I got pg while breastfeeding, but my son was almost a year so I wasn't nursing as often and I knew that it was totally possible for me to get pg, even though my periods had been so irregular.
