AW!!! Another budget milestone!

as of today our mini-van is paid off.

Leaving one house mortgage to be debt free.

SOOOOO happy!  Not sure what to do with the extra $350/month! (Kidding, its getting added to retirement  and savings for college for the kids)

Re: AW!!! Another budget milestone!

  • Congrats!! Our mortgage is our only debt, too. We recently refied and got a reduction in our property taxes, so it's a nice low one.

  • Yeah!  That is always a great feeling.  When I was younger, I saved $200 -$300 a month for my next car when I didn't have payments.  By the time I was ready for a new one, I had enough to pay cash after I sold the old one.  I love not having to deal with the finance people after I negotiate the price.
  • Switch your mortgage to biweekly payments (it reduces a 30yr to about a 26yr) and then send an additional ENTIRE payment (once a year - or more if you can) to add to principal which will take another (roughly) 4 years off the mortgage.  You can cut your 30 year mortgage into a 22 year mortgage (approx) by biweekly payments and one extra payment a year.
So split the $350 in half -- add $175 to retirement/college and $175 to build up over the year to total one whole payment.

Congratulations!  You guys are rocking the budget!
