Cloth Diapering

cloth diapering and travel

We've been cloth diapering my little babe since we got home from the hospital.

We're visiting out of town family next weekend and I'm wondering if we can handle traveling with cloth?

Any tips?

  • Just make sure you have access to a washing machine, and a large wetbag to stuff all the dirties in.

I thought it would be hard, but it wasn't any different than cding at home.

  • Personally, I would rather take sposies for long trips. If it's just a day or two, then CD is fine.

But, what PP said. And if you are going to someone's house, make sure they are okay with you washing poopy diapers in their washer! :)

  • When I was at my parents' last week, I just used their washer and dryer. You might want to ask the person you will be staying with if they are ok with you using it for dirty CDs.

If I had to go to a place without washer and dryer, I will see if there's is a place and time for the laundromat. If not, we'll be using grovia bioinserts.

  • We are going to Disneyland and CA for 6 days (including travel). We plan to CD using disposable Flip inserts. We have done this for weekend trips and it worked great. But, we use Flips at home, so it is easy to just buy the disposable inserts. I do have a question-

We plan on still using our BG+ hemp insert at night. Is there a way I can wash in the sink or tub so they aren't totally rank when we get home for a true washing? Will just a good rinse do?

  • When we go out for a short trip- just 2 or 3 days we use cloth and just bring liners to get rid of most of the poop easily.

When we drive to our in-laws we use cloth and just use their washer and dryer.  One time we flew there and used sposies just because it was going to be too much to pack all those and then we'd have to pay for the luggage as well so it would be expensive to bring them.  That said, if the person is okay with using their machine, it was actually quite simple. Again we used liners so the poo cleaning would be easier.

As for the PP who asked about washing inserts, maybe use a liner for the poo and I think if you just rinsed them or threw them in a bucket or sink to soak (with maybe a bit of CD soap) they would be fine but I'm not sure.
