If you sit at a desk all day...

How is that going for you?

I do 90% of my work at my desk in front of the computer. In the last week or so it has become completely unbearable to sit here! The baby must be all scrunched up or something when I'm sitting & typing and she jabs me in the ribs non-stop -- it's painful!

If I stand up to go pee she calms right down, but about 5 mins after I get back to work at my desk she's at it again.

As silly as it sounds, it is really interfering with my work.  =(

And I hate to think that she's not comfortable in there.

Just curious if anyone else is having this problem, or if my daughter is just being particular about how I sit!

Re: If you sit at a desk all day...

  • Good for me.  I'll get the occasional rib kick but he pokes out the side more than up into my rib.  Oddley enough I get more rib kicks at night when I'm stretched out in bed.

  • I'm having a similar issue with our little guy. When I'm sitting at my desk he's wedging some leg or foot up under my ribs on the right side and it is really uncomfortable. He much prefers when I recline back just slightly, but I can't work on the computer like that so it's difficult.
  • I would take sitting at a desk squishing my baby some over working 55+ hours a week on my feet all day long!!! We can trade for a couple hours if you'd like!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE......

  • I work at a desk and it is driving me crazy!  My problem is more with back pain and leg cramps than with baby, but some days are hard to get through the pain gets so bad.  I try to switch positions while sitting, that helps sometimes.  I hope you find something to help.  I'm so excited to not be sitting all day!

  • I have my computer situtated in the corner of my desk, so when I'm using it, the desk touched both sides of my belly and LO doesn't like it.  I usually get a few jabs and kicks, but once I back away from the desk a little, it's better.  The worst part is sitting for too long and trying to be comfortable in my crappy chair.  The girl who is replacing me has been doing most of my work now, so it's not causing any interference.
  • I have a desk job and although it kills my back, I'd much rather be sitting at this point. When I get up is when the pain starts. It's like she drops suddenly and I can barely move without discomfort.

  • I am also very uncomfortable most of the time!  I have 2 pillows that I keep on my chair but their helpfullness seems to be wearing off as the baby is growing.  It is really horrible and I just keep reminding myself only 3 more weeks!!  I also have some vacation time I have to use before June or I will completely lose it so I have been leaving a little early on the days that are the worst.  Hang in there =)
  • I sit at a desk all day too but the only thing bothering me is my tail bone. My tail bone has been hurting since January, so I've been sitting on a wedge pillow this entire time. It kind of helps.

  • We had a meeting at work last night so I had to sit for 3 hours it was annoying and I did feel at times like LO was being squashed in there...but I work at Starbucks and am on my feet for 8 hours a day, I would def prefer the pain of sitting down over the pains of standing up all day. By the time I get home at night I can hardly walk my back hurts so bad.

  • I should take a picture of how I sit at my desk sometimes, it's hialrious. If she's kicking me in the ribs (or sometimes I swear she has her feet hooked in there and she's swinging from them or something!) , stretching out is the only way to fix it. I will practically lay down in my chair, with my feet on a trashcan, and pull my laptop onto my belly and work reclined like that.

I also get up from my desk at least once an hour, I can't take more than that!

  • I work at a desk all day too, and it's driving me crazy as well.  The mornings are okay, but by about 2pm, I am crabby and totally disengaged because I'm so uncomfortable sitting, and LO is up in my ribs (always on the right side too!)

I wish I only had a few weeks left, but I'm planning to work right up until the birth, to maximize the number of weeks I'll get paid during maternity leave.  I'm trying to get up and walk around and stuff, but there's not really anywhere to go...

This is me exactly!!  My feet are so sore/achy and swollen and I get no relief because I never have time to sit down and put my feet up!  May 13th can not get here fast enough.

  • I've found that sitting on an exercise ball behind my desk (with the door partially closed so my colleagues won't think I'm a lunatic) is much more comfy than using my desk chair.  I do a lot of reading at work and the exercise ball is suitable for that.  Of course, for typing, I need to use my desk chair.  I also try to get a 30-minute (or more) walk at lunchtime which seems to help.  I was having back pain and had gotten a lumbar support pillow for my desk chair, but then started wearing a support belt and feel much better.

    Good luck to you!

  • I am super uncomfortable at work - I get up and walk around a lot and I've just switched out my low foot rest (toner box) for a higher one. My LO is pretty active all day now, I don't think there's a difference in his activity if I am at my desk vs. at home on the couch.  Although yesterday it did feel like he was trying to make a break for it right out my side but I don't think that was work related lol. : )

I hope it improves for you!!

same here. so far, so good.

my current "issues" are crazy heart burn/indigestion and starting to get some icky feet swelling....but neither of these has to do with me sitting at my desk since it happens regardless.

i'm sure it will get worse though....

  • I know exactly what you are talking about. My job is 100% at my desk. With the baby getting so big it is becoming more and more uncomfortable to sit. He is also not liking it either. I don't get rib kicks, i get hip punches instead and they are painful. I am also having issues in my pelvic muscles and bones so when I do get up from my chair I am in a lot of pain when I walk. My doctor said she would write me a note to be able to stop working at 37 weeks so I only have 2 full weeks left over work thank god.

  • I'm fine sitting at my desk all day. Only thing I can complain about is that my feet have been getting SUPER swollen and I wish I had a place to put my feet up!

Amen to this... my feet are HUGE by the time the day is over... I've reverted to cute flip flops... My male boss asked last week "I wish I could wear my flip flops to work?"  I lifted my pant leg a bit and said "Do you wish you had these too?" (refferring to my super ankles) and he said "oh ok, got it!"

This was true for me until about a week ago when I think she dropped a bit relieving pressure on my ribs.  Now it just hurts when I get up to walk around.

I am very happy that my feet have not gotten swollen yet so I can not tell you if this works or not but I got a box and I put my feet up on it when my legs get crampy. It is just a regular cardboard box, on the smaller side but maybe you could play around with sizes if you have some laying around at work.
