I've been on here reading posts and the FAQs and while I'm convinced I would like to do CD and DH *sort of* wants to do it, too, I have no idea where to go from here. I THINK I want to use ones with pockets for liners, but other than that I have no idea. Can anyone give me any quick advice about how to start, which brand is the best? Quick & easy? I'd like to go with a one size cloth diaper because we are poor college students, which is part of the reason we want to use cloth diapers anyway. Our baby will be in daycare while we're at school and work, too, so something easy-ish for daycares to take care of, because I work there and they will tell me if I suck for picking sucky cloth diapers, lol.
Re: Which CD to use?
For newborns, OS diapers generally don't fit. The Rumparooz OS *sometimes* fit, but then they don't last until potty learning.
The cheapest route is prefolds and covers. You can get good quality prefolds from greenmountaindiapers.com for around $24/dozen, and you'd need 4-6 covers, those you can get new/used for less than $10 each.
After baby outgrows the prefolds, one size diapers should fit. Kawaii diapers are $6-$12/each, depending on type. There are other economical options, too. Also - I've bought most of my diapers used, or seconds. You can get some good deals, especially if you are handy and can replace elastic or velcro. You can spend as much or as little as you want! For us, getting a few diapers each month throughout the pregnancy has helped to space things out!
Good luck, and welcome!
I'd start with the FAQs at the top of the board, if you haven't already.
There is no "best" brand. What works great for my LO may leak and be a nightmare for you. Many people recommend a diaper trial (see the FAQ for details) to get an idea of what works best for your LO. Then you can expand from there.
Everything is quick and easy, even prefolds. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy they were.
OS CDs won't work for a newborn. They typically don't fit until at least 8-12 lbs. DD didn't fit into them until she was 3 months old. I had a small (mostly used) stash of sized diapers until then.
Daycares typically like prestuffed pocket diapers or AIOs. They also tend to be the most expensive.
GL and keep asking questions.
We use the FuzziBunz OS, Olivia didn't fit into them until last week when she was 5 weeks and 8lbs.
We took the chance that with buying FBs because my niece uses them and highly recommended them. We also did research for a few months and decided on the FBs. Every one has their favorites or what works for their LO.
umm thank you!!! I am only 45 seconds in and this video is already helping me! Good thing I have two more months before my baby needs a diaper!
