How long until you take apart the diaper cake?

For those of you who had/will have diaper cakes at your showers, when do you plan on taking them apart?  It's just so pretty I hate to tear it to pieces... but I know the purpose of the gift ultimately was to give us diapers.  Plus, they are all newborn/size 1 so I know we'll need them right away.  How long will you wait to take yours apart?  I've been staring at ours for two weeks now and can't bring myself to do it...

I stuck mine in a cabinet the other day (it had been on top of a bookshelf.)

I'll probably take it apart here soon to put the diapers in the basket I have on top of the changing table to keep them in. I figured I want to go through those first (they're NB size) before opening a box of NBs that I could potentially return if I move up to size 1 pretty quck.

I took mine apart about a week after my shower when I went through all the gifts. I felt bad taking it apart, but it's supposed to be used!

I had 3 so I couldn't keep them together. I took plenty of pictures. I took them apart almost immediately and bagged the diapers according to size. I just can't have something large taking up that much space in the baby's room. It broke my heart, but I had to.

I took mine apart the day after my shower.  My shower was back home (out of state), so my mom had to ship all the stuff we couldn't jam into our suitcases.  I have plenty of pictures of it, though.

Mine kind of fell apart in the car and I would like to have everything in it's place after my shower this weekend, so I will probably be taking mine apart this week or at least by the beginning of next week.  I took plenty of pictures, so I will always remember how cute it was.

You're so smart! I never would have thought of doing it this way- what a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion, I'm totally going to do this too.

The diapers in my diaper cake are size 1, so I'm just going to wait until we need to use them. I have a bunch of NB diapers & 1 pack of size 1s. I'll probably keep it in the nursery for decoration until I need them.
