Back from L&D...again

Well, I'm on procardia and bed rest until tomorrow when I follow up with the doctor and figure out the best course of action.  After having a full day of BH w/some crampy ones, I woke up this morning w/semi--painful (think moderate menstrual cramps, a 4 on a scale of 1-10 lol) timeable contractions.  Went in and low and behold they're the real deal (at least I got rid of the feeling of being 'that lady' who goes constantly for nothing)...anyway they tested me for fetal fibronectin (?) which I tested positive for.  That means there's a 40% chance the baby could be born within the next 2 weeks.  My cervix is closed but he said it wasn't the "longest."I got a steriod shot today, and another at the dr. tomorrow.  Also, they said it was most likely coincidental that I have a UTI, and that infection is clearing up, and probably not the cause of these stupid contractions.  Hopefully the kid stays put for a few more weeks and stops all these shenanighans lol.  I am TOTALLY not ready for him to come yet.

when is your due date...I hope your little one will "bake" a few more weeks.

June 12...not super early but holy cow, I'm praying for term 37 wks/end of May.  I haven't even had my shower, that's next Sat.  Literally we have a few outfits, diapers, crib, and a pack n play.  I mean that's all he really needs to survive, but I'm not ready, and he may think he's ready but he's not either. LOL

The dr said the uti had nothing to do with the contrax? When I went into ptl they checked for a bladder infection and asked if I've had any pain going to the bathroom, I didn't have either. Maybe you will have no more problems once that goes away completely. Good luck!

Sorry I ended up in L&D last week with a similar issue.  Just a heads up the procardia is pretty rough when you start taking it.  It wasn't so bad at the begining, but it got worse every dose I took.  After two days I could barely stand up I was so dizzy.  Just want you to be prepared in case you feel that way.  It also gave me terrible heartburn.  Can you ask them to also give you an ultrasound?  It gave me a big piece of mind to know that my baby was measuring ahead about 1/2 week (not much but important when you are trying to make it one day at a time) and that her weight was already 5.5 pounds.  My ffn test was actually negative, but I've read tons on it at this point and it looks like the closer you get to 34 weeks the less accurate they become.  I think the most important part is the steriod shot which you now have so you should be fine.  Lots of positive thoughts for you!!

I had a similar experience last week - went to the hospital with timeable contractions, had a positive FFN at 33 weeks/0 days.  I was also dilating (from a 1 to a 2 before they gave me the procardia) and lost my mucous plug.  I'm home on bedrest.  It's been a week since my ffn and I've continued to have contractions, but nothing painful and still no sign of the baby.  I had a dr's appointment today and he still thinks I'll probably make it full term.  Hang in there!

They said it could be the UTI causing the contractions when I initially went in.  However, toward the end they said that it just seemed to be coincidental and that I'm basically teetering on preterm labor.  I go to follow up w/my doctor tomorrow and will try to figure out more. 

Thanks for thoughts on Procardia!  Monday, I found that out since I had a shot that started w/a T and procardia, and holy migraine.  I thought I was gonna die.  Definitely confirmed it was from the procardia.  She said it was a bp med and it drops your bp and that's the cause.   Oh well hopefully won't have to be on it too long.

Best wishes! I had almost exactly the same experience when I was 32 weeks. I have been on bedrest ever since....and he's still in there! So don't panic....you can absolutely make it a few more weeks.
