I know a few of us have expressed aggravation around people bringing up this topic repeatedly but since weight gain seems to be a grand topic now that we are in our last 1-2 months... I have a question. Sorry to those of you who are sick and tired of hearing about it ![]()
I know from my research online that you gain weight (or can gain weight) because of not just the baby, but the extra blood, placenta, fat storage, breasts, etc...
I'm curious why a lot of us are experiencing a surge in weight gain during these 30+ weeks time? I mean I didn't get my placenta, extra blood, big boobs, fat storage, and a baby last week so why all of a sudden now?
Anyone found the why on this?
Re: Weight Gain Question
The baby is growing at a much faster rate (by the last 6 weeks I think it's .5 lbs/week) and requires more calories that i think our bodies hold onto just in case they're needed. I think our bodies retain more water at this point, too.
i'm not an expert, but these theories make sense to me.
This. At my appt on Monday I had gained 4lbs in 2 weeks!!!(yes, I just about fell off the table when she told me this). But she then said it was probably just me retaining more water. I blamed it on Easter candy
This is also what I've read.

This is an excellent point! I didn't even think of it but you are totally right!
