Sooo I know I can't exactly turn down a gift just because I don't like it and I WILL be grateful for anything we get, but I really can't stand monkeys at all. SIL's ex bf had a weird obsession with them and he was a true JAMF. I mean one time, while SIL was pregnant I saw a cute little sailor outfit I was this close to buying, but he said, "our son will ONLY wear monkeys, don't waste your money." GAH
So even though they're broken up to this day I get a bad taste in my mouth whenever I see any monkey baby stuff. SIL still loves them and I have a feeling I am going to get a lot of monkey things. OH well.
I also don't really like any commercialized/franchised cartoon characters when it comes to baby things (Pooh, princesses, etc)
What about you guys? Anything you just can't stand or maybe even mildly don't like?

Re: I really don't like monkeys!
They are EVERYWHERE! Other SIL and I were shopping the other day and I was like, "seriously who decided monkeys were the baby theme of the decade?!"
If LO is a boy I am afraid of what to do with all the monkey hand-me-downs we are sure to get. ICK.

Oh yeah, that is for sure going to happen. I think we will feel better once we know what we are having. Maybe we will start noticing other options.
Well the link says "jive a$$ m-f'er. But in my head I say Jack a$$ m-f'er.
Basically the guy is class A jerkwad.

Yeah, can't wait!!!! DH says, "maybe we should put NO MONKEYS on our registry or something" Not gonna lie, its tempting, but I feel like it'd be a slap in SIL's face because she still has the monkey obsession... Not that she'd probably even look at our registry.
On the other hand, I don't like anything that says "Princess". IDK why it just reminds me of 7th grade when all the snotty girls wore rhinestone clad shirts that said "100% Princess" and stuff like that. *shudder*

Awww, I love monkeys. But not to the extent it sounds like your SIL loves them! I'm also not decorating with them, and I agree that they are absolutely everywhere when you're shopping for baby stuff. It would be really easy to get overrun with them.
I think I dislike too much of anything, really. I hate cartoon/Disney/princess stuff with a firey passion, along with most commercial logo gear. I'm fine with a shirt or jersey here and there with a sports team on it, but I agree that too much is overkill.
I HATE all the pink in anything for baby girls. It exhausts me. I showed my mom the scrapbook paper that I'm using as the inspiration for our nursery, and her first comment was "no pink at all?" Nope. I will get enough pink blankets and teddy bears and everything else that I see no need to plan to decorate the room with a single shred of pink at all. It's all greens and blues, and I love it.
Or you could just, you know, donate the stuff you get that you don't want to charity, or return it and replace it with stuff you do like. I always thought a registry was supposed to be a wish-list of things you desire, not a list of stuff you don't want.

Yeah, I'm with Linger. There are a lot of things I don't particularly care for when it comes to babies (stupid phrases, anything super commercialized or name-brand, over-the-top pink), but I'll accept any gift with a smile and a genuine "thank you," and then send it to the women's shelter or teen pregnancy crisis home with any other extras that I don't need.
Thank you for clarifying JAMF in your thread about disliking monkeys.

Which is probably what we'd end up doing, I said it was tempting, but I wouldn't actually do that... Sheesh

You sure did, but you followed that up with "but I feel like it'd be a slap in SIL's face because she still has the monkey obsession..," which, using the rules of proper written English, means that's the reason you're not doing it. Your reasoning has nothing to do with what's appropriate, so sheesh yourself.

LOL! That would be extremely painful.
lol okay, Linger. Just to clarify I would never actually do that- as I stated before we'd be grateful for anything anyone got us. And the only person that I would be aiming the "no monkeys" comment at would be SIL to avoid the plethora of hand-me-downs clad with monkeys sure to come my way that LO probably would only use/wear in emergency or be donated.
Erma: I love hearing that I am not the only one with a true disdain for monkeys. Although, the ones at the zoo are pretty stinking adorable.

L-O-freakin' L. The things that people get riled up about...
I agree with you...I don't like animal or cartoon themed anything for babies..I also dislike the things with those stupid, corny sayings...
I say the same thing about anything Winnie the Pooh, I hate it.. LOL
My 13 mo old DS nickname is monkey. LOL.. He's a climber and runner and all around "Monkey". LOL
I don't mind monkeys too much. DD's theme will be jungle-themed, with a few monkeys here and there, but not dominated by them.
The only thing that bothers me is stuff alluding to how the child is some sort of a princess. Stuff like "I'm a princess" and "daddy's little princess" will not fly with me. Images of princesses on clothing (like Cinderella or Ariel) is fine, but there will be nothing proclaiming my child to be royalty if I can help it.
