Can I ask, why did your LC recommend waiting til 7 months to start solids for G?

I'm trying to decide when to wean M, and were it not for the awful SNS, I'd be more than happy to wait. I wanted to do it the way you described with BLW, but I'm not sure with her slow weight gain, and given we're now supplementing 2oz of formula ans 2oz of bm thru the sns anyway (so the ease of ebf is already gone)...

  • I think it's mostly because she's such BM advocate and because she doesnt feel like most babies systems are mature enough until 7 months. I don't think she meant that there is anything magical about 7 months. Of course the recommendation here is at least 6 months so I think you have to take the advice with a grain of salt. My takeaway was that there isn't any rush to start solids. Babies are perfectly fine on just BM after 6 months. Your circumstances are difficult since you've been having to use the sns. I'm so sorry you're continuing to have such a rough time. I can ask her what she thinks.

Sorry for the rambling. It's 4am here and I don't think I'm totally coherent.

  • That's kind of what i was thinking. Thanks. :)

The recommendation here is six months, and many wait til then, but I don't know anyone here that waited longer than six months. We weaned W at 5 months because he was showing all the signs and was ready. Of course he went from a skinny minny to a chunky monkey in the space of 2 months!
