DH and I took the boys to McDonald's to play for a bit (William LOVED it, Jacob wasn't so sure). While we were eating our food (which IMO is the worst time to approach someone) a woman walked up and said "oh twins", "this one has dark hair and this one has light hair, that's how you tell them apart huh", I just replied "yep" and left it at that. I understand that twins are "neat", I always thought they were neat, but can I please eat my food or walk through a store without asking if they're ID, if they run through my family, if we were shocked, etc. I know I never stopped people to ask them, I may have commented to whoever I was with that there were twins (which now I find just as annoying for someone to be talking about me good or bad when I can hear them). Anyway, can't wait for them to be older and maybe they won't look so much like twins.
Re: Good thing they have different color hair or we'd get them mixed up
At mass on Easter, DH and I were in the back with the babies at different times, and once together. When I was in the back with DD, someone said "do you have twins?" I said "Yes." She said "the other one is bigger." I just said "yes". I guess they are supposed to be the exact same size because they share a birthday.
Regarding the pointing and talking like we can't hear, I lost my cool with someone in Baby Gap on Saturday over that very thing. After a long day of people pointing at us like they'd just seen Elvis and a martian riding a yeti through the outlet mall, I snapped when a woman pointed from about 5 feet away and said to a child with her "LOOK AT THE TWINS!" I said "they're children who share a birthday, and not an exhibit. Please don't point at them." She did not like that one bit.
LOVE this!
