I talked to the midwife at the birth center I'd like to deliver at. She said she knows of one person who fought her HMO and was able to get coverage at the birth center. DH said that if in the end the insurance isn't willing to pay any of the costs, he will go ahead and pay out of pocket. I checked my benefits on my insurance's website and it says that I do qualify for midwife care. There are no midwives in my network. The midwife at the birth center told me that by law, they have to provide me with one. AND WE FOUND THE LOOPHOLE LADIES!!! Even if I can at least get some percentage covered...I'll feel victorious!!!
Re: f/u: possibly switching to a midwife/birth center
Excellent news! I'm so glad it's working out for you!
It is really sad that so many women in this country have to work so hard to get more hands on, less expensive care during pregnancy covered by insurance. Sigh.
