DD will be a year old next week
and I have been starting to think about weaning her to cows milk. Being a first time mom I am totally clueless about all of this, and of course when I ask my mom she says "You had whole milk by 6months" so that's really no help.
Anyway, first of all, DD is on Gentleease formula. We switched to the toddler kind about a month ago but I am worried whole milk will be too harsh for her. So do I just start mixing a little in with each cup of formula?
Also, I think she is getting too much formula. She gets 3 8oz sippy cups a day but doesn't seem to eat that much real food lately. It could be from her 2 top teeth coming in, but should I start decreasing as I start weaning her to cows milk?
Does it sound right to give her 3 6oz cups a day from now on then start offering more and more people food?
I hate to sound like an idiot about it, but I just don't know and her pedi isn't much help either. We are in the process of finding another one but it's tough where we live.
Thanks ladies! Hopefully some of you can share some good ideas!
Re: Questions about transitioning to milk.. please help!
I tried to give DD straight whole milk at first and she didn't really go for it, so i just mixed 1/2 and 1/2 for 3-4 days to get her used to it, then she was totally fine after that. My pedi told me that at 1 she should be drinking 16-20 oz a day and the absolute max was 24 oz. So, I think you've got the right idea to move to 4 sippys. My DD is 13 months now and drinks two 4-6 oz sippys during the day and one s6-8 oz bottle a night. The good thing is that your DD is already drinking out of a sippy cup, so hopefully she'll get a taste for whole milk soon. As for food, my DD has 3 meals a day and a puffs snack in the afternoon. Goodluck :-)
