Am i supposed to use up the activity points and my weekly remaining points or are those just cushion room?

I use them as cushion points.

As a general rule, you are supposed to use your activity points for sure.  The extra weekly points are more discretionary, but paradoxically, people generally find they do better when they use those as opposed to not eating them.
