Does this mattress look like it fits good?

Please forgive my ignorance, I'm a first time mother.  Does this mattress look like it fits well enough inside my crib?  This is the Naturepedic Lightweight seamless mattress.  When I researched fitting pointers on google, I read that you should not have more than one finger-width space between the mattress and the crib, when the mattress is centered on the crib.  This mattress is pretty snug width-wise, but length-wise there is a one finger-width space on either end.  Also, since the mattress is seamless, it seems to be rounded on all sides, not exactly square-cut as seamed mattresses.

WDYT?  TIA!

  • Does it have a mattress pad on it? My mattress does this as well, and it makes me uncomfortable. The only thing that gets it to fit snug is not having the mattress pad on or having really snug sheets. I have to use jersey knit sheets that have a lot of give. Otherwise, the sheets are so snug that they pull the mattress in causing the gap. It bums me out, because A. we just got this mattress and B. I have never had this issue with the prior mattress that we got rid of.

No, it does not have on the mattress pad yet.  I thought that maybe when I put on the pad it will make it snugger, but you're saying it actually pulls it in to make it smaller?  Do you have this same mattress?

Nope. I have a different mattress. Yes, when I put the mattress pad on it makes the gap worse. I will take a pic, so you can see how mine looks. I really don't know how to make it better without taking everything but sheet off, and I think DS sleeps better with the pad on.

  • This is how ours looks with the mattress pad and a jersey sheet. It is even worse with the cotton sheets that came with our bedding set.

Mine doesn't look like that right now.  Which mattress do you have?

  • No, yours doesn't look as bad as mine does. That I can see, but you did ask about the gap. Mine has a gap as well, but just a bigger one than yours.

My mattress fits perfectly when I just put the mattress in. It is a Safety 1st one.

  • Do you still have the paperwork from your crib?  Mine lists the minimum acceptable crib mattress dimensions.  I would put on a mattress pad and see how it fits.

  • you guys' mattresses do NOT fit your cribs well. i don't know what to tell you though. perhaps google your mattress and your crib together or separately to see what mattress recommendations/experiences people have.

See that is the funny thing. The mattress I have is recommended for my crib which is a Graco Charleston. The mattress fits fine without the mattress pad or a tight sheet. I put it on last night and just put a blanket under the jersey sheet instead of the mattress pad, and it looks completely different. The mattress fits perfectly. Evidently, the mattress pad is just so tight that it pulls the corners in. Actually, it bends the mattress, and yes it is a crib mattress pad.

I have the Ikea Gulliver crib.  I don't have the paperwork with me, but this is what the website says:  "For your child's safety, use a 27 1/2x52" crib mattress with our cribs."

The mattress I bought is 27 1/2 X 51 7/8".  So the mattress I bought is only 1/8" shorter than Ikea recommends.  I didn't think 1/8" of an inch would be much of a problem, but I guess I'll look into returning the mattress (still have the plastic on since I bought it yesterday) and getting something else.

    Thanks for your input everyone.

ok, then you should change your pad because it should be more snug. i have a soybean mattress and it's not as thick as yours. maybe your pad is too small for that mattress because yours looks a little thick. thankfully it's just a pad issue. maybe a pad that just lays on top? as long as you have the sheet on top of it you should be ok.

I need to check the dimensions again. I have 2 crib mattress pads and they are both way too snug. It is really weird. So, either they shrunk a lot or this mattress is bigger than our last one. Either way, I think it is odd that I can't use a mattress pad. Sad
