Nice and Affordable Maternity Clothes

Hi Toronto mothers and mothers-to-be!

I'm about 16 weeks into my first pregnancy and no longer able to fit into my clothes, particularly my pants (of course!)

I don't have a lot of money for maternity clothes and I'm also not too sure where all the stores out there are...any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Nice and Affordable Maternity Clothes

  • Wish I could help... I'm six weeks so I haven't crossed that bridge yet.

But where is everyone? There are literally millions of people in Toronto why doesn't anyone use this site? I'm from the states and by now you would have had plenty of options to choice from. Am I missing out on some great Canadian pregnancy site?

  • Hi there,

I have found the selection to be pretty dismal as far as maternity clothes go - especially in the downtown area.  I have had some luck at Old Navy in the Eaton Centre - if you subscribe to their emails, there are often coupons and sales.  I also got a couple of things in the maternity section at the H&M in the Eaton Centre.  My friend let me know about a Mexx store that opened around the Yonge & Eglinton area that has maternity clothes but I have yet to make it there.  Good luck!

  • Hi ladies,

Thanks for your recommendations! I was pleasantly surprised at the maternity jeans from Old Navy- not amazing, but better than expected.

I'm still so surprised at the lack of available of maternity clothes in a city this size! Thyme Maternity also has some decent clothes, but they are out in Burlington/Oakville.

If I find any great resources, I'll be sure to post them.

Yorkdale Mall has Thyme, Motherhood and another maternity store, as well as Old Navy, and sears and the bay.

But to be honest...i have yet to find very fashionable maternity clothes!  Even H&M's mat line is pretty boring.  I dont understand why they cant make cute, fashionable, affordable clothes for us too!

  • Sorry so late to the post. My friend has had good luck at once upon a child for maternity clothes. She said they were in really great condition and for about $100 got a full bag of stuff! Hope that helps.

  • If you are on a tight budget you might want to try looking on Kijiji - I found some great stuff from some women on there and all were in good condition.

  • I have found most of my stuff at Motherhood.  There is a Thyme Maternity at Warden & Eglinton in Scarborough (the closest Motherhood I found was Pickering, so I shop online).  You may want to try looking for some things in larger sizes at regular stores - I got a cute empire waisted dress at Addition Elle that fits my 29 week belly with room to spare!  Good luck!

  • Value Village.  I went there when I was pretty early in my pregnancy and got a pair of dress pants, a nice blingy "tank" and a nice dress all from Thyme.  They had only been in the store for 1 day, and were all priced at $9.99 or less.  I have shopped at Thyme since then, my jeans were $69.99, most dresses at least that much and shirts usually at least $29.99; so I had a huge savings and fashionable clothes!!

  • Also shopping on a budget - kijiji has been great, kid consignment stores often have a selection of maternity wear and some of the Facebook mom to mom sites.  I've done not to bad and haven't had to pay retail yet!!

  • If you want good stuff, try evymama on the danforth. I'm not showing yet but when I am, I'm going to go there. If you don't mind online shopping, a pea in the pod and Isabella Oliver are good. You can sign up for notifications when they have sales. It also looks like ASOS has some good maternity stuff.
  • I ordered a few items online and found some pretty good prices. Also H&M and Old Navy.
  • Old navy is good (I got a winter jacket, 3/4 sleeve black fitted maxi, and sweater) and I got leggings at urban behaviour that aren't maternity but I just got a size bigger than usual and they are high waisted so actually give belly support and definition as well for only $7! Target and h&m have good stuff as well. Personally I found the stuff at thyme and motherhood to be kind of frumpy and not my style not to mention expensive but that's just me!
