if your LO has had bleeding with ear tubes, come in

My DD has had ear tubes since september and she hasnt had a single ear infection until last week. It started out with clear/yellow drainage, then today it was blood. Her ENT doesnt seemed bothered by it, they just called in ear drops. Has anyone else's LO's had bleeding with tubes?

  • Yes, and it turned out to be normal because she also had an infection that was draining out.

  • Yes, right after his tubes were put in he had blood and crust - ENT said it was normal and we treated with antibiotic drops and it cleared up.

  • Yes, we are dealing with it now. We are doing drops now and will be giving oral antibiotics in a few days if it doesn't clear up with the drops.
  • Yes--DS had quite a bit after getting his tubes put in (enough that it was like dripping out of his ears-- quite scary if you ask me). It ended up being no big deal and we did drops and it was fine. I will say though that I would take your LO to maybe have their ears checked a couple weeks from now. DS had QUITE the build up of dried blood in his ear-- so much so that the ENT had to remove a huge clump (sorry TMI) but I swear that he could hear so much better after that happened and FWIW I couldnt see the dried blood at all and thought that I had done a pretty good job cleaning his ears.

  • ok, thanks ladies! I just about passed out when i saw it. She already went though oral antibiotics, so now we are going to do the drops then after thats done she will go in for a check. It just seems like quite a bit of blood...eeekk! :(

  • Yes!  I was at work, and got a call from daycare that he had blood coming out of his ear!  I was so nervous!  The ENT said it is normal, we treated it with the antibiotic drops, and it was fine.  (Hard to believe that blood dripping out of the ear is normal, but I guess it is!)
