For soakers, shorties, and longies, I prefer wool that is stretchy, so that it can stretch over DS's hips. I have wool coats and I doubt I'd use them for those purposes, because it's not that stretchy.
I've used wool skirts to make wool wraps before. Then, stretchiness isn't an issue, because you don't have to pull them up over hips/diapers -- I actually prefer wraps to be less stretchy. I could see using my wool coats for that purpose, if I ever stop using them as coats
