S/o time-outs

Most of time-outs are hitting or throwing related, so we take away the offending object. For how long should the object disappear? To put DS in time-out is one minute, but to take away the item until he calms down and then give it back seems like it reinforces bad behavior.

  • I think you can try to give it back to him after timeout, but if he repeats the behavior, it goes away for the rest of the day?

this is what i would do.

at this age, their memory is not that long anyway. more than likely LO won't miss it.

  • I agree with the rest of the day.  Molly is in the throwing phase right now and she gets calm down timeouts where she sits there until she is calm again (rarely lasts more than 2 minutes).
