I feel like I always start these because I want to AW something and don't want to make a special post being an AW :-)
LO is 3 months, 2 weeks today (15 weeks tomorrow!) and is really turning into a personality. He has mellowed SO much since even just two weeks ago, and is now satisfied most of the time, and when fussy, is mostly fussy with a purpose. He still screams bloody murder if his diaper is wet (and doesn't seem to care too much if it's poopy, lol), and will cry when hungry and tired. But the endless screaming just to scream seems to have dissipated. We will probably try a bit of dairy in a week or two to see if he regresses, because I don't want to waste the 200+ oz of bm I froze before stopping dairy if that's not the reason for his improvement.
He has started mouthing things with a vengeance - we gave him a lovey toy and he hugs it and pulls it up to his mouth and sucks on the blanket and the little arms. His grandpa gave him a Sophie the Giraffe for Easter and he isn't quite sure what he thinks of it, but I think it will be a hit. I am starting to watch for signs of teething since both DH and I cut our first tooth before 5 months - me at 4 months, DH at 5 months. I thought I might have felt a bump on his gum yesterday but I really hope I am imagining things.
Last thing - he has turned quite smiley for a serious little guy. He now loves to smile up at me while nursing, which just melts my heart. It breaks his concentration, though, so I need to work on not reacting so much.
Re: check-in
Hurray!!! Cue the parade! Cue the marching band! Doesn't it feel fabulous? That is great news.
My check in is - - I'm taking my 4 year old to the White House Easter Egg Roll today, so totally excited about that. My DH is home with my 2 year old today because she's had a 104 degree fever all weekend poor little thing. And my five month old DS is drooling like CRAZY so let the teething begin! He's a happy little guy even though his non-STTN is making us a little nuts. It helps that he smiles a lot, and his latest "trick" is doing zerbert sounds with his mouth/lips. Hilarious.
M is growing up so fast! He crawls all over the place now, and in the past 2 weeks he's really gotten into pulling himself up. I think he finally mastered it this weekend. I fully expect to go into his room one day and see him standing up in his crib. I'm nervously anticipating the next stages - cruising and walking. Ack! I'm not ready for that yet!
Hurray for no more screaming just to scream!
Sprouter is mostly more of the same: crawling, getting more vocal (which is both a good & bad thing) and just getting into everything. We went to the pedi last week & he's almost 23 lbs! I swear, my arms have never looked better. I've discovered the joys of bringing the pack & play outside. He's able to play without getting super dirty and is contained. He loves being outside...I'm thinking about getting a tiny blow-up pool for the summer...I've already gotten him a bathing suit.
C is pure awesome sauce with a side of hilarity, lately. He is at the stage where he'll just wander around the house naming what he sees (Wall! Door! Dog! Hi, Dog! Mama shoe! Spoon! Chair!). So cute.
A few months ago he was diagnosed with an egg allergy, which we assumed was the cause of his super gross diapers. Well, that grossness continued without explanation. Last week we added probiotics to this morning milk and it seems to really be helping. Right now my goal in life is to parent a child that only poops once a day.
Coincidentally (or not?), the hitting has also gotten so much better! I don't know if it's from consistent time-outs or if his tummy feels better so he's not acting out, but he's been so much gentler in the past few weeks. And! He stopped that "waking up in a fit of rage" nap issue. Super sweet.
Yay for the end of colic!!
DD is doing well. She still surprises me with her vocabulary, her ability to put thoughts together and her love of reading stories to herself. They are so funny when she does. She's getting to be a more adventurous climber - most folks go through this long before 2 I imagine, but it's really scary to turn around and see her trying to climb the fence, the furniture, really anything that gets her to where she wants to go.
DS is still a sweetheart but I really wish he would sleep more at night. Since we started daycare a few weeks ago, he has majorly regressed - I know some babies do because they want to maximize their nursing time and momma time but I am more sleep deprived now than I have ever been. I love his laughs and his smiles, they charm me so much. Yesterday he discovered that he can yell and make lots of noise and he thinks it's so funny. So does DD. She joins in too.
Nathan has now mastered pulling up on everything. Just 3 weeks ago, he was rocking back. Now its full on crawling, chasing down the hallway, butt naked fun. He had his 1 year checkup and was 32 1/2 inches tall and 29lbs, 7 oz. I'm beginning to wonder if I should contact Snyder and ask if he needs a defensive lineman?!
He discovered he can play peekaboo w/ his blind in his room (no cords of course) instead of napping. I'm thinking I might be moving the crib to the other side of the room.
I took care of DS all weekend - DH is recovering from hand surgery. I've never been so happy to take him to daycare. Momma's back needs a break!
DS is getting so big and crawling all around the house. He is standing up on occasion. The other day when he was defying nap time (as he likes to do on the weekends) we saw him on the monitor standing up in his crib. So we lowered the crib to the lowest setting.
He likes to kneel and go into the bottom drawers. He will then remove all of the clothing in the drawer. It's so cute and a little annoying. I think we're going to have to stop letting him do that so it doesn't become a habit.
He likes to babble and I swear he is close to saying "Dada" with some purpose. He hasn't really gotten the "em" sound yet. He loves to smile and laugh. He has a wonderful little personality.
He weighed 20lbs 15oz at his 9-month appt on Friday.

To follow up on my diaper rash post from the other day, it turns out J has a fungal infection on his butt. Ugh. So we're treating that, and it getting better, but still looks gross, and it means we have to use disposables instead of cloth because of all the medicine we're slathering on him.
This cracked me up, because J easily poops 4-5 times a day, which is not helping the infection. And he also eats SO MUCH. I thought we were going to have a slow-down like everyone talks about at the 18-20 month mark, but there seems to be no end in sight.
He is newly obsessed with toes ("tooos") and wants to see mine all the time. He's learning words like crazy - I swear it's like 2-3 a day at this point. And he remembers so many little things - like a few weeks ago we went for a walk and at an intersection saw some parents carrying a crying baby. We walked by there yesterday and he kept saying "Baby? Cry?"
Oh but the new fun thing he's doing is pooping in the tub. It seems like almost every time we give him a bath, he poops in it. We just ordered a little potty seat; I'm hoping we can plop him on that instead so we don't keep having to scrub the tub.

baby blog/cooking blog

Yay for less crying for baby and more sanity for mommy!
We're doing great. This weekend, we flew to Boston to visit my mom, and she held an open house so that all our friends and family could meet the babies. Even though they were totally off schedule, were in a new place, and were being passed from person to person, they did great. And, they were fabulous on the airplane. It made DH and I so much more confident in our parenting abilities and helped us realize that our travel days haven't ended.
As for the babies themselves, they are doing awesome. They have such different personalities. DS is physically a brute but is so tender-hearted and a cuddler. DD, on the other hand, is a real daredevil and quite sly. On Saturday night at my mom's house, DH and I pulled the babies into bed with us since they weren't sleeping well in the PnPs. Around 4am, I wake to DS whimpering and a clicking noise. I see that DD has stolen the paci from DS's mouth and is waving it all around in the air, even though she has a perfectly good paci in her mouth. This is pretty typical in our house these days.
Neither of them are crawling yet but they want to be mobile so bad. They aren't sitting unassisted yet either b/c they have don't want to practice that, they'd much rather move right to their belly to try crawling. So, they are going to be mobile soon and then our whole lives would change.
Last but not least, they still aren't STTN, but hopefully we'll see an improvement soon.
DD#2 is all about climbing on anything and everything...and she's starting to develop some vocab...some of it makes sense (ball is pretty close to the actual word), while some of it seems to be her own creation--diaper is "bib bop"...not sure where that comes from
DD#1 continues to be VERY chatty and super observant...her ability to memorize things is remarkable.
We took both girls to the circus on Saturday...I knew DD#1 would love it, but figured that DD#2 would get antsy--not the case, at all. She was enamored for almost the whole 1.5 hour show...ESPECIALLY when the animals came out. Too cute.
mssaint - Glad to hear the crying has gone down and that things seem to be stabilizing.
Artslvr - I'm jealous that you get to go to the Easter Egg Roll. I hope we get to see some photos.
We moved in Feb and are now 1/3 of a mile from DH's parents whom I adore. It has been great and DD asks everyday if she can "go see Bama" (grandma). We've been spending a lot of time with them and it's just so convenient having them nearby. I feel so lucky because it's such a win-win...they love seeing her and having her over and the support and break for us is so nice.
And for the big announcement, we bought a minivan last night! After weeks of back and forth between the Sienna and Odyssey, we got the 2011 Odyssey. Even with just two kids, I think it will be great for us. We frequently go on trips to my parents where my brother comes with us and we also go places with DH's parents. So, I think we'll use the extra space.
DD is talking up a storm and has SUCH a little personality. She love playing with dolls, putting on necklaces, hats and shoes, etc. She's getting better at communicating which has been wonderful. Like last night she told me her ear hurts (I think she may have a bit of an infection). This morning she told me she wanted to "eat lunch". Well, wrong meal of the day but at least I knew she was trying to say she's hungry. Anyway, she's just a true joy and is so much fun.
I'm about 3 weeks from my scheduled c-section (I'll get the exact date on Friday). I can't believe I'm going to have another little baby girl soon. I'm a bit nervous about the recovery from surgery and BFing but I know I'll get through it. I just can't wait to hold her in my arms. I have a few more things to do to get ready but overall, I'm feeling more prepared than I did a few weeks ago.
Hurray! We got the 2010 last year. You won't regret it I swear. In fact I have no idea why we waited until we had three kids to "justify" buying a minivan. I wish we'd bought it sooner!
C had his 12 week check up last week, he measured 25 inches (90th percentile) and 12lbs 8.9oz, so he is long and lean! He's becoming much more social, babbling quite a bit and showing hints of an actual laugh!
He started daycare on Wednesday, and did great. He seems to really like it, and loves watching the kids play. His napping has been a little off because he's in a new place but I'm sure it will even out soon. This weekend he had some congestion probably from being exposed to a whole new set of germs. But he didn't run a fever and was just a little more fussy than normal.
I miss maternity leave.
I love reading all of these!
DS is doing well...he loves preschool and when DH picks him up, he gets upset that it's time to go home. We moved him from his toddler bed to a twin bed last weekend and he is thrilled with his big boy bed. I'm a little sad that he's old enough for a big boy bed!
DD is crawling and trying to pull herself up onto everything. She is 10 mos. old and weighs 18.5 pounds. DS was already 25 pounds at her age, so my arms are enjoying the break. She loves waving and is trying to say "hi" (which comes out "aaayyyyyy") and strangely says "up" a lot.
that is wonderful the screaming is getting so much better!
H is 4 months old (18 weeks tomorrow). It's so crazy to look back on pictures from her as a newborn - not only do I think her face has changed so much, she's just so big now! But she is going great - her 4 mo appt isn't until next week so I don't know all her stats but she was about 12.5 lbs when we weighed her yesterday. She smiles a lot and DH has been able to get her to do real belly laughs as of last week instead of the cough-type single "laugh" we only got before. We just went to the beach last week so she could meet my mom and grandparents for the first time which was a lot of fun. She did so good in the car for all the driving we had to do and we only had a couple meltdowns. By the end poor thing hated being put in the car seat.
The only two downsides are 1) I think we've hit the 4 mo wakeful period. Naps have been a real challenge lately - both going down and staying asleep, and she wakes up during the night at least once a week. And 2) I think teeth are on their way. Nursing has been hurting again the past 2 weeks or so and yesterday I noticed two spots on her lower gum that are clearly where her teeth will be coming in. I'm not ready to nurse a baby with teeth.
I'm glad to hear that. Sometimes I wondered if I was going overboard with getting it now but whenever we go visit my mom, I sit in the backseat so my brother can sit in the front. With 2 carseats in the back of DH's sedan, there's no way I would be able to squeeze my hips between the two carseats. Also, with two rear-facing car seats in our near future, DH and I would both be uncomfortable in both of our sedans since both the driver's and passanger's seats would have to be pushed up (we are both tall). So, it will be nice to have this van as the family vehicle.
These are so much fun! DD is doing beautifully. She is just so sweet and will come up to me, throw her arms around my neck, and say "I love you, Mama!" She also has started telling us stories and reporting on what she does at school.
We were in a "Go away!" phase for a while that was really awful. DH finally explained to her that it hurts his feelings, so she has started getting creative. She now says, "Dada, go find something else!" or "Dada go to work now!" It's kind of sweet because we know she's trying not to hurt our feelings.
She is OBSESSED with bunnies, so Easter season has been a challenge and a pleasure for her. We took her to the mall to get her picture taken with the bunny, and unlike all the other kids who were screaming because they were scared, she cried when she had to get off his lap. She kept saying "My Bunny!" Now she just wants to tell us over and over how she sat in his lap and he tickled her nose.
We have a 2010 and only 2 children and we love ours too. DH really loves it for all his Home Depot runs, it's amazing how much stuff fits in there and it is so much more comfortable on long trips. We don't use it for around town driving too much though since the gas mileage isn't great.
We're considering a minivan more seriously than ever. DD won't be ready for a booster by the time #3 arrives, and I don't like the thought of her being in the third row of our Pilot (mostly because I count on her to hand things to DS or tickle him if he's angry...or poke him if he's falling asleep...). But DH is adamant that it have 4-wheel drive, and I think only Siennas do? Hard to make the leap, though, since the Pilot is in good shape and will be paid off in August. We'll have to do some configuring with the infant seat in the mix and see if we could possibly fit all three in the back seat. I'm sure I'll be asking for more info on here in the coming months.
DD's preschool will be wrapping up in a month, and I'm afraid she's going to be bored this summer because pregnancy plus brutal summer heat drain me...I seriously want to just sit on a couch in my air-conditioned house all day. Going to have to make a real effort to keep her entertained and trying new things. DS is still my feisty little guy: lots of fun but more work than DD at this age. He's more of a typical toddler than she was. His vocabulary is still not what it should be, but the doctor told me that "animal noises" count as words (as long as he uses them appropriately), so his word count quadrupled with that news
I've known little boys who had language explosions between 20-24 months, so I maybe he'll be one of those.
Pregnancy is going pretty well - so far, easier than with DS. I'll have a few days in a row of nausea and indigestion followed by a few where I barely have any. But I'm perpetually exhausted - without the luxury of mid-day naps this time around - and am not sleeping well at night (which is so out of character). We spent a few hours yesterday at a local farm, and afterwards I was so sore - felt like the ligament stretching I remember. Since I'm already showing (at least in my eyes, and DH has oh-so-kindly commented on it), perhaps that's already kicking in. I changed my health insurance so I could see civilian OBs instead of military, so hopefully that won't mean a huge expense for us. We meet the midwives for the first time next week, and I'll get my first ultrasound. We aren't finding out the sex this time, which adds an element of excitement - as well as one of impatience - we didn't have before.
DD is doing great! She is talking more everyday and we still get great joy when she points at something and names it. It seems to be completely random things lately.
We had fun coloring Easter eggs, hunting for eggs but church was still a big fat fail. However, the only reason we went was because of pressure from my mom so I was perfectly happy to spend most of the service outside.
We have a few busy weeks coming up with DH's father coming, my dad coming and some fun things we have planned so I hope it all goes well!
He is still not potty trained, but I am trying not to pressure him, b/c he is like me--pressure from authority figures = immediate resistance, even if the pressure is in the form of positive support. I think he is just going to decide completely on his own. Now, peer pressure is another story though. Hopefully it doesn't take this long, but if he isn't PTed by preschool, I think he will quickly be influenced by the others in his class.
DD will be 6 months old next Tuesday. She is sitting, laughing (finally, boy is that girl hard to crack), can stand while holding on to objects, and is trying to figure out the army crawl. She seems to have forgotten how to roll (belly to back) for the moment--she hasn't done it since her 4 month appointment. She is still working on rolling from back to belly too, which is weird, considering all of the other things she can do. Not high on the priority list I guess.
I am hesitant to say it, but she has also been STTN for a week! Cross your fingers that it will continue!
I don't know if this helps, but we have the four year old and the two year old in the third row, with baby RF-ing in the second row. That leaves a seat open in the second row for me - if baby is fussing, I go back there and tend to him. Does the Pilot have three rows? I know nothing of Pilots. I know for us having all three kids in the same row would have been disaster, as my girls love to poke at their baby brother. I'm glad he's out of their reach!
Let me know if you have any questions because I have looked at both the 2011 Odyssey and Sienna extensively. The Sienna offers 4WD and on certain models (the Odyssey does not have any 4WD option). You can only get the Sienna 4WD as a 7-seater (not an 8-seater). So, if you get the Sienna with 4WD, you'll have 2 seats in the second row and 3 in the back. Therefore, you couldn't have all three kids in the second row. This was one of the reasons we didn't get the 4WD (also because we wanted seatbelts for 8 in case we are carting other kids around).
The Odyssey has 3 seats in the second row and all three of them have the latch system for car seats. So, if you don't want one kid in the third row, that may be something to consider as you are weighing the options.
I love check ins. I bit behind but I haven't checked the boards all week since my parents are here. It's been wonderful having them here to help out and Xander is LOVING spending time with "grampy". He quickly learned his name on the first day of their arrival and has been going into their room every morning (leaving us more time to lay in bed).
Xander's language is reallly picking up speed and I love it it. His favorite phrases that crack me up these days are "What happened?" "Whatcha doing?" and "Where go?". He is imitating everything we say so we have had to be more careful around him. He is also really enjoying running around on the playground and we are thankful the weather is finally warm enough to do so. He seems to nap and sleep so much better when he can have some time outside. I've noticed that the biting and craziness at night is really reduced if he gets time outside as well. We took him to say goodbye to his daycare teachers the week after Noah was born and he burst into tears as soon as we entered the building because he thought we were dropping him off. It was the saddest thing and it broke my heart. I'm happy that we are done with the CDC and hope to find a good daycare provider for my boys soon. Need to start looking next week- ugh.
Noah is doing so well. I can't believe he will already be 3 weeks on Sunday!!! Maternity leave and time is going way too fast. Breastfeeding is going really well- no cracked nipples this time around but I had some serious engorgement issues right away so have had to pump at least in the morning and at night. I still am quite engorged when I wake up in the morning and Noah only nurses on one side (like Xander) so have no choice but to pump. I'm not sure how I'll manage pumping/running after a toddler and caring for a newborn when DH goes back to work next week. It should make the mornings interesting to say the least. Noah has been sleeping like a champ at night since day 1. we typically go to bed around 11:00-11:30 and he sleeps until 3:30-4:00. Then he feeds and goes right back to sleep until at least 7:30-8:00. I know this can't last forever so I"m enjoying it now.
Next week will be a different ball game for us. DH goes back to work and I have to start looking for a daycare for when I go back to work. I have seen a few signs for in home daycares right down the street in our development so I'm going to check those out first. I even thought about putting Xander at the Goddard school here in Waldorf and finding an in home center for Noah at least for the first year. We just can't afford two in a center right now. I would like to find a really good home daycare that has a toddler and infant opening.
