so i know some women don't even experience their water breaking, but i don't want there to be a mess if it were to happen. How are you preparing your bed? Car? You wearing pads? i'm clueless.
DH and I both work for a hospital so we are "borrowing" some chux (the large cloth pads they put under patients). We will put them on the bed and keep a few in the car for the drive in.
I think once I hit 36 weeks, I'm going to sleep on a towel. I'll probably do the garbage bag and towel on the way to the hospital though. It's a 30 minute drive minimum.
waterproof cover is already over our mattress. around 36 weeks i will pack "emergency packs" for each car and one for work. each will contain a few chux pads, menstrual pads, a spare pair of undies, and a spare pair of pants.
i did all of this prep last time, but i actually have no idea when my water broke (must have been during labor). the mattress cover ended up being a lifesaver, not because of amniotic fluid, but because of all the blood that came out when dd was born!

I had't really thought about it but I think I'll start sleeping on towels as I get closer to my due date. My water only broke pre-hospital with my first, and it was a very small leak so I just changed and wore a pad to the hospital.
In my prepared childbirth class, the instructor suggested putting a shower curtain liner under the sheets and a garbage bag in the car. I work in healthcare so I like the pp suggestion of the chuck....maybe I can start sneaking a couple over the next few weeks.

We used a waterproof mattress cover in the months leading to the due date. My water broke after I got off the bed on the way to the bathroom. I wore a huge pad to the Dr's office.
I plan on asking my mom to bring home some of those large pads from the hospital and I'll sit on one of those for the car ride to the hospital when the time comes (assuming my water hasn't broken already).

I've been thinking about this myself lately. I just bought a waterproof mattress pad off of Amazon.com that arrived in the mail yesterday. I'm going to wash it tomorrow and just put my regular set of sheets on top of it. If the sheets get ruined, it's not a big deal to replace them like it would be if our entire mattress got ruined.
I hadn't thought about what to do about the seats in the car. I did buy some large waterproof pads based on recommendation from a friend with several children - she said they're just good to have around the house to throw over the couch if the baby is sitting with you to protect it from leaky diapers. I bought them in size large so they might actually work for protecting the seat in my car in case my water breaks.
I have one pack of Always overnights that could work for the water breaking, if it's a slow leak.

Re: how are you preparing?
My friend drove while sitting on a black garbage bag. I may do that. Didn't do anything to bed yet..maybe I should.

Same here! Geez! Thank goodness for this board... I swear I would be a rude and unprepared mommy to be if it weren't for you ladies!

We also have a waterproof mattress pad. Each car will have some old towels.
Is it bad that I'll probably just use my dogs pee pads for my bed and if I'm going to the hospital in the car? lol
I've seen them at the hospital being used so why not!
