My baby's ears stick out - is it my fault?

Please no flames.....I am really upset about this.

My DS's ears are not the same shape as they were when he was born.  They started to stick out a few months ago - and I think it's my fault Sad   He had bad reflux and the only way he'd sleep for the first month was in the car seat.  I would always notice that his ears would be pushed forward when he was in the car seat (due to the head positioner, which he needed) and I'd also gently push them back. Then, for the next two months, he'd sleep in his swing....and the same thing would happen to his ears.  Again, I'd always push/tuck them back when they'd fold over - but I think all of that folding over really affected his ears, because now they really stick out.  I don't mind, at all, if this is the way his ears are supposed to look....but I feel as though they wouldn't look the way they do had I not let him sleep in the car seat and swing.  I look at his newborn pics & his ears look so diferent back.  I feel as though I am to blame for them sticking out.  It's also like the tops of this ears have no cartilage in them; they are so flimsy and I can genty touch them and they fold right over.   Is that normal??

I'm sorry for the novel....and I truly hope this post doesn't make me sound like a shallow Mom.   I'd love to know your thoughts about this.  Thank you.

  • You could always tape them like the other nestie. Smile

Seriously though.... I don't think you can make your kids ears stick out.

That is a good question, but I seriously doubt you could have done it. Do you or your dh have ears that stick out??

  • No way....not something you could do.  My dd's ears stick out too and didn't when she was born...DH was like that as a baby as well.  They grow and things change... it isn't the carseat.  They grow into them...

  • No, you didn't cause it. Their ears pop out after awhile. Some more than others. He'll grow into them. :)
