overproduction at 11 weeks

My baby is almost 12 weeks old and I still shoot fountains of milk down her throat at least once a day.  I am not really complaining about it, given the opposing side of under production, except the fact that she chokes on it every now and again.  It's just strange to me that this is still happening when she's almost 3 months old.

I only just started pumping this past week and that's only because I went back to work and needed to while we were apart. At work I've easily been pumping more than DD eats in a day.

I get worried that although I have this overproduction now that I might not produce enough when DD is older. This seems irrational to me; is there any merit to it?  Have you been through this? What was your experience?

  • You're right- that's irrational. Stick out tongue You're not going to "use up" your milk or anything, it's a limitless resource. I've never had an oversupply, but I do have a forceful letdown...and my daughters just got used to it as they got older. As far as pumping more than you use in a day- consider yourself lucky! You'll be able to build a great stash, which you can use after your LO weans or donate to babies in need. :)
