Why are there crib bumpers with the bedding I want if you are not supposed to use bumpers???

This question came up recently and is probably still somewhere if you scroll back ....

Some will cut up the bumper and use the fabric to make other pieces for the nursery.  Some have placed the bumper on the outside of the crib in the same place it would have been if inside.  Some saved it and put it in later when the risk of SIDS drops because the infant is mobile. 

Remember that many places sell the different parts of the set individually.  You could just buy the sheet and skirt for example.  Many have said the blanket that comes in some sets is not used either... but then some use it as a play mat for tummy time and others hang in on the wall of the nursery for decor.

A lot of moms feel comfortable using the bumpers still. And a lot of moms put the bumpers on the crib once the baby gets older. I got the breathable bumpers and now that DS is 5 months and wiggles all around at night, I feel much better knowing his face won't end up smashed into fabric.

Bumpers are not dangerous if used properly. When you hear about babies suffocating in bumpers, they are either overstuffed or not installed properly. Obviously a lot of moms choose that its better to be "safe than sorry" but the majority of bumpers being sold are thin and stiff. It is important to make sure that if you decide to use bumpers that your mattress fits properly (snug and tight) in your crib, the bumpers are knotted to the crib (not tied by bows) and that you don't use overstuffed bumpers.

We have the bumpers set up in our LOs crib, although she is sleeping in her PNP in our room and will be for the next few months.

 This is an example of what you DONT want. The fact that there are so many shops on ETSY selling similar bumpers really pisses me off. It would be extremely easy for a LO to suffocate with these bumpers.
