After much measuring and debate, we finally decided on and ordered a crib and furniture last night. I thought I would share my findings for other short parents. We focused on the front rail that we would have to bend over to reach the child and the height of the mattress on the highest setting. Unfortunately, I did not write down the mattress heights. We stayed away from any cribs with a 35" or higher front rail. There may be additional cribs with low heights, but these were the ones I wrote down/measured. We generally avoided the more boxy style cribs, preferring ones with different front and back rail heights.
Bonavita Peyton Lifestyle - front rail 34" (We chose this one.) This had one of the higher mattress heights at the top position as well.
Pali Wendy and Mantova - front rail 34.75" (Other Pali's may be this height as well, but these were the two that we looked at. One note - in some stores, the Pali had wooden slats for mattress supports and in others they had a metal wire support. This would effect mattress height and number of positions.) Also - the feet on the Pali Wendy can come off if you needed it even shorter, but then you would be bending farther.
Ikea Gulliver - 32 5/8" (per Ikea website)
Ikea Sniglar - 33 1/8" (per Ikea website)
Romina Nerva - I didn't write this down but believe it was between 34" and 34.75" because I think it was shorter than the Pali Wendy or Mantova.
Baby's Dream Legendary and Ocean with Safety Gate - with the Safety Gate down it was 32". With the Safety Gate up, I didn't bother to measure because we couldn't reach over it. One note - it wasn't clear to us if the Baby's Dream with safety gates had 2 or 3 mattress positions. The sales literature said 2, but the sales person said 3. Also the Baby's Dream with Safety Gate convert to a TWIN bed and not a Full like most convertible cribs. The non-safety gate Baby's Dream cribs convert to full. The safety gate cribs use the side pieces for headboard and footboard not the front rail that you would lean over with the gate.
