Can't tell you how many times I read people who EP for twins think they make more just because they have twins. It doesn't happen for all of twin moms, and they are so incredibly lucky. So so so lucky. I worked in breastfeeding for 3 years before entering my professional career (which obviously still has a lot of breastfeeding in it). I did everything right. Yet my boobs never made more than 26 oz in 24 hours.
Oh well.....I will continue to be bitter betty as my kids continue to get 50% formula at almost 9 months old. Darn these former 34DDD....I really thought we had it going on!
Happy good friday girls!
Re: breastfeeding multiples
I am a lurker, but I had to thank you for posting this. I went through 4 lactation consultants, breastfeeding "boot camp," fenugreek, domperidone, and more tears than I care to remember, and like you we are still at 50% formula at almost 9 months. So much of what I read and what I was told in the early days made me feel like I wasn't making enough milk because I wasn't trying hard enough. It was the 4th LC who finally helped me realize that it just doesn't happen for everyone, and anything I was able to do was best for my kids.
I think of it this way -- I've given them the equivalent of EPing for 4.5 months, and that is nothing to sneeze at.
It's fascinating, huh?
I've seen anorexic mamas with AA boobies make GALLONS of milk for their singleton - and well-endowed mamas of multiples who struggle to get a few ounces. Such an incredibly complicated process.
I was one of those mamas who had massive oversupply with DS. I am now kicking myself thinking of all the times I said "I could feed two babies with all this milk"... Hoping the b@@bs cooperate as well this time around!
