We're driving down to San Diego next week (excited!!). Anyone have any suggestions for how to occupy the kiddos during the long ride? (Most of the time they will be asleep - we're planning on leaving really REALLY early).
We just did a drive down to San Diego 2 weekends ago. On the way down, I stocked up on Crayola Color Wonder markers and paper/coloring books. These are the kind that only work on the specific paper. And she brought books for looking through/read (although she doesn't really read yet)
On the way back, my brother had a portable DVD player waiting for her when we got there. So we used that and the coloring stuff on the way back.
FYI: DD did NOT sleep at all during the drive down. And she had a melt down the last 15 minutes. But on the way back, she slept most of the way.

At the toy store we found these hand held leapfrog things that teach numbers and letters. We packed those. We had portable DVD players. We did coloring books with the special markers that only make color on special paper (they are inexpensive an usually near the cashiers), we got little trinkets like rubber lizards and stuff. Basically a nice selection of new things to discover. Make sure not to give them everything at once. Wait until they get sick of one thing and get restless, then give them next thing.

Both my 2 an 4 year old love the Melissa & Doug memory game. Would be a great road trip toy! They also like Etch a Sketch for the car.
