So I'm expecting twins. My original due date is May 22 but when I first met with MFM they said that they wanted me to deliver the week of May 8 (38 weeks). The last 3 weeks I've been dealing with high blood pressure (now medicated but still pretty high) and the fear of mild pre-eclampsia (seems under control for now. My 24 hour test last week came back with low protiens). At my last appointment the doctor said he thought I would deliver the week of May 1. I thought I understood his explanation at the time but now I can't remember why he said that. I know at 37 weeks they should still be okay, they're big and I've had the steroids for their lungs just in case.
I plan to discuss this with him further at my Monday appointment but was wondering if any of you had the same experience? Is it because of my high blood pressure that he'd want to deliver early? To just be sure pre-e doesn't set in?
Re: Docs keep changing delivery date
ACOG basically recommends delivery for hypertensive patients at 37 weeks. Just ask your doctor if that's what they are thinking.
FWIW, my babes were born at 36 weeks for severe pre-e. DD went home; DS needed 1 week of NICU for lung probs. I did not receive steroids because I never had an indication; I still think if I had DS would not have had lung problems or at least to the same extent.
