Other than cracking one open, is there a way to tell if an egg is successfully hard boiled? You would think with all the stuff I cook I could HB a flippin egg!
I have no idea on how to tell if they are cooked but I ALWAYS have to get out the Betty Crocker cookbook and look up how to hard boil eggs. Their method hasn't failed me yet.
Are you trying to tell if they are actually done boiling, and are therefore cooked through?
I always put my eggs in the bottom of an empty pan and then add cool water until the eggs are almost covered. I leave a little bit of egg sticking out of the water. Then put on to boil. Let the eggs boil for one minute, then turn off the burner. Let them sit in the boiling water for 10 minutes. They will be fully done at the end of that time.

I received something like this as a gift. You just put it in the pan with the eggs and it will turn black when they are hard boiled. I would always overcook them before and they were rubbery.. yuck!

This! And I always let them boil for 20 minutes. I know I read that somewhere.
