Toddler in a cab

Does she need her convertible carseat? The last time she was in a cab, she was in the infant carseat and it was very easy to use with a seatbelt.

I will do it if necessary, but I don't know where to put it after we get to our destination.

Re: Toddler in a cab

  • Legally, no.

The last time we were in a cab with DD we were on vaction.  We didn't buy her a seat on the plane, so we didn't take her car seat - the only time we were in a car was the cab to and from the airport.  Some people would never take their child in a car without a car seat because of safety issues; others are willing to gamble.  For us, we couldn't hack that one more big piece of gear in an unfamiliar airport for a 15-minute ride at the beginning and end of a trip.  Go with what you are comfortable with.

  • If you are truly concerned I am certain you can call a car service and arrange for a car seat with your ride.

  • the husband and i were considering a bus trip and the question of how to transport the child came into question regarding that too.  we ended up scrapping the trip because we never came to any conclusion we liked.
  • Well, the trip isn't even necessary. We would be going from Rosslyn to the Kennedy Center (less than 5 minutes) but maybe we just won't go. The parking at the Kennedy Center is $20, so maybe I should just buck up and pay the parking!

    Thanks for the help!

  • I'd call the Kennedy Center.... they may allow you to "check" a car seat at the coat check.  Or, call the number here:  https://www.kennedy-center.org/text/accessibility/mobility.html

I know a car seat isn't a disability aid... but, seems like they might get similar types of questions about walkers/wheelchairs/etc.
