Agreed.  I think I spent the summer of 2000 reading Thompson books...  I was going to be a journalism major for a semester because of it...

Lets see... I read this book in the summer of 1995- going into eighth grade.  Or 1996- going into ninth grade.  I can't remember.  I remember reading it in amazement thinking "wow... if my mom only knew what I was reading"... and she totally did, but she let me read any books I wanted to, especially gonzo.

I think she appreciated that I knew it was a book, regardless of the content, the fact that I was reading something from such a remarkable author was all that mattered.  I think it maybe shaped how I think.  I always read crazy crap.

I'd be that little kid reading readers digest about how huffing paint leads to being found dead in the swimming pool and crossed that right off my list of things to ever do.  I think my parents left these things lying around on purpose.... it worked.  heheh
