Baby Names

Hannigan

Ok, so I heard this name the other day at the park. (Girl)

They mostly called her Hanna, and would use her full name when needed (she was pulling kids hair and kicking them while telling her mother to "shut up") She was a darling, little child lol

Anyway, I have never heard this as a full name IRL and the only thing I associate it with is the move Annie.. "we love you Miss Hannigan"

What are you thoughts on this name??

That was my first connection too.  I don't think it's a very nice first name.  The fact that it was clearly attached to such a... pleasant... child would also knock it down a few notches for me.

  • I thought of Allyson Hannigan. I love her, but it's not a good first name at all. Plus, I assumed boy when I saw it.

I say stick with Hannah if that is what you want.

  • I thought boy name as well when I saw this name. I can see using it if it were a family surname, but beyond that it doesn't do anything for me.

Yep right away 'I love you miss hannigan' popped into my head... but I also thought you were talking about a boy name.

  • I never heard it as a first name before but I kind of like it.  I don't think I would be brave enough to use it though.

  • Not a fan. I am a huge Annie fan, so immediately I thought of Miss Hannigan.

My guess is that it was a maiden name in the family and that is why they used it. Otherwise if they wanted to call her Hanna, why not just name her that? It's a name all on its own!

  • Well, seeing as how it's a last name, I don't think it makes a very good first name- especially for a girl.

  • Ick!

  • I grew up with a boy who's last name is Hannigan, NMS at all, especially for a girl.
  • I like it if it has some significance to the family.  Not so much if they just made it up.

  • I originally thought boy too... and I wouldn't like it on a boy or a girl. :(
