Are there any MDO programs open in the summer?

Quick version:
I'm looking for something for Megan and Ryan for summer (and maybe longer) so they'd need to take 18 month olds.  I was thinking 2 days a week.

Long version:
DH and I got to talking this week and I think its going to be really hard for him to job search while watching both the kids full time this summer.  Especially since he basically has to start over (at 41, sigh) and find a new career (since there are no teaching jobs...).  So I was thinking an MDO would be great because its low cost and just a couple days a week.  Hopefully that (and nap time) would be enough time for him.  If you or your DH has been through the job search thing recently I'd love some feedback on if this sounds realistic.  Thanks!

oh and you can email me if you don't want to post, michelle dot boss at gmail  Thanks!!!

I can't comment on MDOs, but I can comment on the job search.  I think a couple of days a week dedicated to searching is reasonable until you get to the point of interviewing.  Then you are basically at the mercy of their schedule.  Company's are big on phone interviews right now too since so many executives who make the hiring decisions for the area may live/work in other states.  So then you'll need peace and quiet to do the phone interview.

    Thanks Rosie that is helpful!

Will his job search be for teaching?  I think 2 days a week plus naps would be enough for searching, but could be tricky for interviewing.  I have never know schools to do phone interviews, mine were always in person. (it has been 5 years though, so things could have changed) Also, when I was searching for a teaching position I learned that the schools shut down and the admins are out (do not do any hiring) from right before July 4th until late July.  (all the districts I was interested in anyways) So, most of July was a wash for job searching.

I'm guessing his summer job search would be in a new field i.e. not teaching.  Right now a lot of districts have a freeze on hiring.  I think he's still planning on spending some time now - May looking for a new teaching job even though its very unlikely... but my guess is that the summer job search would be more focussed on other fields.

Although I guess teaching interviews could come up in the summer if someone moves/leaves last minute.  I think that will be ok, my job is pretty flexible so I'm hoping I can just take off time / work from home for those.

I was talking for non-teaching jobs since it sounds like he will be switching careers.

I am interested!  I'm north though... where about is it located?

  • Ours is open all year long and also has a preschool. Email me if you want the details.
  • Our MDO/Preschool is in PF and I know they are doing summer camps and I think they are everyday for a week (probably like 9a-2p).  I think they're offering 4 or 5 of them.  Let me know if you want details!
