Chewing crib rails

Now that LO has both bottom teeth in, he's starting to chew the crib rails like mad! I leave him in there to nap and the next thing I know, his entire face is black from the paint...makes me feel really uneasy that he's eating all this paint and stuff from the crib. Did any of your LOs do this?? I'm scrambling to find a rail guard/teether that will work...I see lots of mixed reviews on Amazon...and some of them are pretty expensive too!

Awesome that you posted this, since my dudes (especially Will) are on a mega rail chewing kick and I need some guards. The problem I'm finding is that all the ones I can track down have rounded tops and my cribs have flat edges...supposedly the ones from Ikea work well though?

Yeah, I think it probably will depend on how your crib is shaped/what its edges are/etc...

I'm thinking about getting a cloth one, like the one linked (thanks lelekay!) except I don't have time to make one these days with the busyness...I figured that way, I don't have to make sure it's shaped exactly like my crib rail?

I thought about this too, but I think how effective they are depends on how determined of a chewer your LO is. I really doubt they'd work for us - my guys both looove chewing on cloth type things, even biting and yanking sharply on it with their teeth and trying to shred it - so in our case plastic would probably stand a better chance. But if your LO is more of a casual chewer, they'd probably be fantastic.
