I'm still BF'ing DS (15 mos) once-twice a day, but now that I'm newly pregnant, I'm not crazy about him being on my stomach (and potentially kicking around), and I'm thinking about trying to wean him. I'd love at least a FEW months off before the new baby comes! Tonight I tried to offer him a sippy cup of milk instead of me, but he lost it, screaming/crying and clutching at my shirt trying to nurse. I eventually gave in and nursed him for a few minutes, then transitioned to the sippy cup. Honestly at this point, I don't think he nurses for hunger reasons, but more for the emotional comfort and bonding.
I'm just at the point now where I don't know what to do. He is so used to his routine - nursing first thing in the morning, and right before bed, and gets very upset if he can't do it. How do I start to break the routine and transition him off? Or am I stuck until he loses interest? And do I need to worry about his 25lb body on my abdomen or is the baby protected well enough in 1st trimester?
Any advice from moms who have been there would be awesome! Thanks ![]()
Re: Any advice for weaning?
DS is 15 months and still nursing 2-3 times per day. He sits sideways on my lap with me kind of cradling him with my arm, or we lay down to nurse.
I don't have any plans to wean until he wants to. We went a few days this past week where he didn't nurse at all. I'm thinking that things will continue in this fashion until the baby comes. And, I am OK with that.
