I'm sad..... (re: weaning)

At the beginning of March, we cut Fin down to two nursing sessions from four. He's still been nursing when he first wakes up and right before bed though. I recently switched from the mini-pill to regular bcp, so I had a feeling my supply would tank even more and we'd probably be done. I thought I was okay with it, but today he was uninterested during both sessions, and I'm sad... I am not ready for my baby to grow up! :*(

  • Oh, I totally understand.  That is just such a bittersweet (and hormonal) time.  There's really nothing I can say except that I've been there.  I will tell you, though, it will feel great to have your body back once you get used to the idea  :)

  • I was sad to start weaning too, but we were TTC and I hadn't gotten AF back yet.  What made it worse whas that DS never seemed to care about BFing...as long as he got fed he didn't care where it came from.  He was never one of those kids who would pull at my shirt trying to nurse.  It was nice to get my body back though!
  • Oh girl, I've been there. I just weaned S a month ago, and I am pretty sure I posted the exact same thing.

The first 2-3 days were tough for me. When he'd cry, I'd want to offer it. It was hard to get out of that routine.

BUT, he was fine with it, he was ready. Really, it's totally fine now. No problems, no looking back... And yes, it's nice to have my body back!!

Hang in there! You did a WONDERFUL thing for your little man.

  • Totally understand how you're feeling.

I can tell you it gets better each day. You slowly adjust to not doing it (just like you adjusted from nursing around the clock to 4 times a day eventually) A few weeks after we were done, I was fine with it... It's mostly an adjustment period!

    Hang in there Mama!

  • So bittersweet.  It is hard to move on, no matter how much you anticipate it.  Hang in there.
