Re: how to remove ear fluid?

  • a few drops of Isopropyl alcohol in each ear can dry it up sometimes.

Place your index finger in the upper back corner of your ear hole and hold it in place. Push gently. Tilt head. Have washcloth ready if you don't want the fluid on your finger. :)

  • That normally drains through your eustachian tube to your throat, so if it's inflamed with seasonal allergies, or from dust/housecleaning/etc, it can swell shut and trap fluid, try 2 ibuprofen (400mg) and then 4 hours later, another 2, and see how you're doing then?  I spent years in college on the diving team.. and I'm allergic to chlorine, so I learned a lot about ears and sinuses from the ENT specialist I had to see.
  • ok i will try the ibuprofen thing first. (already took some for back pain)

if that doesn't work, i will try the alcohol. thanks, ladies!

  • Neti pot!  You need to get the gunk out of your sinuses to give it room to drain.  I went to the doctor once with what I thought was an ear infection and he said it was just fluid.  He 'prescribed' a neti pot and after the second time of using it I could already feel some relief.

  • Once you get things loosened up, you could also stand on the leg opposite the stuffed ear, turn your ear to the side (toward the ground) and hop. It sounds and looks crazy, but it's a great way to get water out sometimes.

  •  The hop approach is always my first choice :-), usually followed by pinching my nose and swallowing, sometimes the negative pressure after a swallow can open the tubes enough to drain your ear...  glamorous, I know
