What to get a 4yo girl?

One of my friend's little girls is having her party this weekend and I have no clue what to get her.  Any ideas?  She's very girly girl so I was thinking maybe some princess dress up something or another or something hello kitty.  But my friend might kill me if I go that route because her girls might kill each other over the hello kitty item.

What about doing a dress up kit?  You can get an inexpensive backpack or suitcase and fill it with different dress-up items.  Purses, skirts, vests, hats, etc.  My DD turns 4 in a month and she loves stuff like that.

  • What about Polly Pocket?  I think the age is 4 on those.

    Yes
  • The 4yo girl I know loves crafty stuff.  One of her favorite things is some sort of book where you dress up ladies with sticker outfits.  She has a kit to make mosaics (which, really, is a lot like a sticker book, just with stick on tiles) that she likes to get out a lot.  She's obsessed with stuffed animals and books.  (Recent favorites: the "give a mouse a cookie" books.)  She got one of those little bear things you squeeze and a sounds comes out of its mouth for Christmas (hard to describe, but if you have two they'll harmonize? I've seen them at Target), and is still obsessed with it.  She also loves zhu zhu pets, but those are tiny and she seems to always be looking for a lost one.
  • I usually get arts/craft/project things for that age.  My two favorite toy stores are Kaleidoscope Toys in Round Rock. They have lots of little project kits that look fun (some with girly things too like jewelry boxes to decorate).

And Lakeshore learning on Great Hills.  The have a lot more cool art supplies so you could make your own little kit.

And I've always had great service at both stores!

  • Target also has some ready to go crafty stuff girls should like. Kinda like paint your mug, color your own t-shirt stuff like that.

As a mom let me tell you what we hate the most - little toys that either get lost, get stepped on and hurt like a mofo...  Polly Pockets, Zoobles, ZhuZhu Pets, etc. All of these SUCK!!!  LOL

Both my girls loved anything dress up, necklaces, bubbles, coloring books, paints, play doh, beads for making necklaces, princess barbies.

  • I agree w/ the other ladies. Dress up clothes, jewelry making kits, craft, paint, books, dress up dolls...all of those are fun at 4.

another ditto, my girl did/does not like the girly girl stuff (princesses) but still loves dress up!  Arts and crafts are always a big hit too!
