3rd Trimester

If you did/are doing a baby scrapbook...

This will be my first scrapbook, but I really want to do one. I'm super crafty, so I know I can, I'm just kind of overwhelmed. If you're doing one, are your pages going to have the same colors/theme/etc.? It seems most "regular" baby books are this way and all the kits I saw (I almost chickened out and went with one of those Stick out tongue) also have the same theme or colors. The virgo side of me wants to go this route since I like consistency, but I don't know if it will be too boring this way. Are scrapbooks usually completely different from page to page? Well... I know the stuff on them is different, but I guess just colors, etc. I'm having a hard time picturing it...

Re: If you did/are doing a baby scrapbook...

  • I do a lot of scrapbooking and most of my pages are different.  I will usually do a two page spread that is of the same series of photos and same colors etc, but with each page flip you will get a completely different theme.

I choose each theme from colors pulled from the photos, generally.

It can definitely be overwhelming to get started.  Do you have any scrapbooking shops in your area? Although they can be a bit more pricey, staff is usually very helpful and they often run classes or let you use in house equipment (like the cricut).

  • Aside from Michaels and Joanns, there's an Archivers about an hour and 15 minutes away. :/ It's doable though, I'm just not sure once LO is here (any day).

  • :lurking from 2nd tri:  I did a baby's first year album for my bff and I used the same colors through out the book (pink, green and yellow to match the nursery - both solid and patterned papers) but mixed the colors for each page.  For instance one page the background would be pink with green wording and yellow frames, and the next page would be yellow background, pink lettering and green frames, etc.  I went pretty simple on the themes for the holiday pages.  I have a Cricut so for the Christmas page I did some cute little stocking and tree cutouts, for the Valentine's page I did hearts, bunnies for Easter, etc, but still used the same colored and patterned papers.  I think it turned out really nicely and my bff cried when I gave it to her.  Hope this helps.

This. The only scrapbook I made that has the same general theme throughout was our wedding one. I think it's more fun to mix it up!

  • You can always choose a regular scrapbook binder, instead of one geared towards babies and dress the binder up. It helps break/dilute some of the themes and throw some funkier colors and options out there that you wouldn't normally have.

I'm getting a little burnt out by the same baby animals and pastel colors and hand/foot prints on everything, so my scrapbook will likely be a pretty vibrant colorful one.

  • Also, have you considered doing a coffee-table-book-type of scrap book (instead of printing out the photos and pasting them in)? I did our wedding album book on blurb.com (it was nice, as I was able to order multiple copies  for the parents and grandparents).

I'm planning on doing the same thing for this baby's baby book. You can make each page different or the same. For the wedding book, I kept most of the backgrounds to black, but with different patterns. Blurb.com has TONS of page templates to choose from.

Yeah, I'll probably do one, but more just photo album style. I like the texture and layers of scrapbooks, but I love the way my e-pic book turned out (can't even remember who I made it through now!). I've meant to do a wedding one for years, but just haven't gotten around to it.

Me too. I think that's part of why I want to do a scrapbook... to make it more my style. I don't really like pastel anything for the most part! It seems everything I've made for him is in his nursery colors (orange, turquoise, and lime) or has some nature-stuff or critters on it.
