Hi, I took a newborn care class for adoptive parents through Adoption Connection in San Francisco. I thought it was really great, but a little expensive. They aren't our agency, but we were still able to sign up for their classes. They have a ton of other useful classes for adoptive parents, too. PACT in Oakland also has similar classes. I preferred them to taking a class though our local hospital, since I thought I'd feel uncomfortable with out being pg. As far as other parenting classes, I haven't really thought about it.
We took one right after we were approved. I was definitely the only lady there not pregnant but I didn't let it bother me. The teacher knew when we signed up that we were adopting and we did introductions at the beginning of class so everyone else knew as well.
We took a newborn care class. I kept giggling to myself that the pregnant women were looking at me and trying to figure out why I was there
ETA: There were no introductions, so the 2 women who were 6 months along just kept staring at me. And we had to make the teacher talk more about FF than she wanted to.
We took a newborn care class through our local hospital. I was the only non-pregnant soon to be mom there...but that didn't bother me.
It was sort of funny....I could see all the pg women staring at me and wondering (1) what was I doing there without a bump to show and/or (2) wow, she's really not that far along. But, we went around and did introductions...so then it was like a collective sigh of relief from all the women....aaaahhhhh, that's why she's not showing and running to the bathroom every 15 minutes!
